Last Saturday evening, around six o' clock, I was sitting in the sunshine outside a Portuguese sports bar with my wife and sister. Since they were discussing shopping or suchlike, I was listening to the conversation at the tables next to me. A dozen or so English lads on a golfing holiday were trying to find out the football results from back home. One of them had discovered that Arsenal had won 3-1 and wondered who had scored the goals. Now, as I'd been watching the sports news earlier, I knew the answer and turned to the lad and said "Van Persie, Diaby and Arshavin". My wife and sister were hugely impressed. Nothing to do with my football knowledge---they had been totally oblivious to what had been going on and thought I was speaking Portuguese to some locals!
