I know some may not agree, but I really think Beau Peep should start tweeting. It's amazing how quickly followers can build up, and it would be good for the website and selling mugs etc.
I can set it up, and then theoretically, any one of us could post tweets now and again. Ideally it would be Roger, in the same way that John Cleese and Stephen Fry make occasional witty comments which followers lap up.
The bad news is that user name BeauPeep has been taken by a guy in Nebraska. BeauPeepStrip or BeauPeepCartoon is an option.
Thoughts?

Just so long as I'm not expected to put all the twitterers birthdays in the calendar or have to listen to a bunch of twittering before 6:00 AM.

Idea for a name?
BeauTweet ?
-
I have a question: what the bloody hell is a 'Tweet'?
-
Idea for a name?
BeauTweet ?
I think you should pick a name that suits you Nige as, let's face it, it will just be you anyway.

I think BeauTweet is a good'n. Let's see how it goes.
I started with Twitter only recently and have 3 "accounts". One I have is with our new travel business, and my Twitter account name there is go2philippines, which I'm pleased with. It's really quickly built up followers, and people connected share snippets and links. Only today I re-tweeted a link from a travel writer pal in Manila that I know, and straight away he tweeted kind words about our UK business. He clearly has many many followers himself because there was retweeting of his message going on in abundance, and we gained many more new followers. In return, I've had a Travel Writers website ask me for info about him and asking if he'd like to submit his stories to them. I'm still getting the total hang of things but it's becoming a good marketing tool and looks like it can become quite powerful..

Damn - "BeauTweet" has already been taken (and incidentally happens to be suspended for strange activity!)
-
Why not try "HouseofBeau" ?
I've just set me up as TomofBeau...
-
You're just doing it to wind me up now, aren't you, Peepsie? It's that, or you're becoming a tweeting bore... >:(
-
No I'm not, Tarks. I think it could work...
BeauPeepTweet is what I've taken.
Let's see how it goes.

Nige, you talk as though you don't know me! Twitter...Tweet...Twit...this means as much to me as Japanese spoken by a drunken Dutchman with his face in a bowl of soup. I don't even know if this is done on a computer or a moblie phone---the former, I can barely switch on and the latter, I don't own. I'm happy for you to go ahead with this but I doubt if I'd find the time to contribute on anything like a regular basis. (Even if I knew how the thing worked). I'm vaguely aware that Twitter involves brief snippets of (often) mundane conversation but I really can't see me ever getting too enthusiatic about all this. I enjoy this site because we have built up an intimate core of regulars and we've got to know each other over the years. I look in here at least once a day and contribute as often as I can. Maybe I'm wrong, and correct me if I am, but isn't the point of Twitter to converse regularly, briefly and often? I'm old! I don't have the energy or time for that!

It can be done as often or infrequently as one would wish, Roger. I picked up 2 new followers from the first tweet, which would have been picked up by my personal existing cartoon followers, and my facebook followers. This is thanks to (free) software I use called Tweetdeck. Generally those that tweet, pick up followers who have an interest in what your subject is.
Trust me.

Okay.

Roger, as you seem to know a lot more about Twitter than I do, please explain what it is!

Is the object of this exercise to sell mugs, or destroy the intimacy of this site by flooding it with curious tweeters? Call me selfish, but I don't care for either scenario.
How many mugs have you got left? I'll buy them if that's what you want - I love 'em.
Sorry, Nige, I think you're playing with fire here.
-
Well a huge amount of work went into setting up the site all those years ago, and since, and the forum too, in all its manifestations. All done with goodwill, and for no reward.
I suppose we had anticipated having more that 3 people contributing in those founding days.
Some days go by with no contributions at all.
I'll refrain from tweeting about Beau Peep until people's fears are allayed.
-
Okay - fair comment. I'm just a tad worried you're about to unleash the other extreme.
-
I just had a couple of nice comments on facebook, and nothing more there. It really isn't scary.
