Title: Great Site
Post by: Malc on November 07, 2009, 10:20:29 AM
I'm at my son's flat in Bristol and he alerted me to a great animation site put together by a Scottish guy called Davey.

The humour is very Scottish in flavour and style, in my opinion. It's "clean" in a positive sense, and I chortled throughout.

Joan, I'm hoping it's a positive vib for you.

Malc, I appreciate the work that's gone into these---and some of the animation is really nicely done---but I can't honestly say that any of it raised more than a brief smile. I think, at times, they are trying too hard to be "off the wall" and the overall effect suffers because of this. There is genuine talent in there and some excellent touches but, in my opinion, they're still trying to show what they can do, rather than spend time on content. Let's put it this way---I think they're more than capable of a lot better.

Looking at the style of humour, I was trying to think of who it reminded me of, and it's Ivor Cutler. Ivor wasn't everyone's cup of tea ;D

He was mine, and I enjoyed most of what I saw on the site, Malky. Made me feel more than a little homesick too.

Thanks, Malc - I've seen the site before as their links are usually posted on this site http://dearscotland.com/ (http://dearscotland.com/) which you might like, actually - they have updates about Scottish bands playing overseas.  I get their updates on Facebook.  I like it because they have updates on what Scottish actors are up to.

In fact, I just got the link to this from there - cheered me up no end, think I might rent "Young Adam" or would it be too shocking for me?

I laughed even more at the second half

I'd forgotten how good Craig Ferguson is/was. I first came across him on one of my Toronto visits, whilst trawling through the 6 million television stations. Somehow, Jonathan Ross and Michael Parkinson never seemed the same after that! Thanks, Joan.  :D

Yes, Vulch, I've seen him a couple of times, but only briefly - don't think we get him here, although we don't have pay TV - he may be on that.  The two of them together made me feel quite homesick - not that either of them lives in Scotland!

A filum with Ewan McGregor and George Clooney in it ... what more could a girul want?

I wouldn't know - I'll have to ask Mince.

From a bloke's point of view I can see the appeal of George Clooney, he's a latter day Clark Gable, but Ewan McGregor? Bit ordinary, I'd have thought. You can do much better, Joan.

From a girl's point of view, I can't see the appeal of George Clooney! Come on, it's fantasy-land - it's got to be Brad Pitt! And Ewan would do as a substitute..... ..0

Not really... She is getting on a bit.

I hope I'm not standing next to you when next you and Joan meet. With my osteoarthritis I can't duck as quick as I used to.

You don't need to worry at the moment, Malc, my right hook isn't working and my left one's a lot slower and has less impact.  I'm just going to ignore the cheeky wee b*gger, take your advice and deal with him later.  There goes my invitation to Karaoke night on Bute - phew!

Ewan doesn't really appeal to me that way, Malc - he's a bit skinny.  I like a man who stays on his feet when I hit him.  (Edit, I'm just back from seeing Amelia and would like to revise my opinion - Ewan does have a certain something and I doubt very much I could knock him over.) I like him though, something about his Scottishness, humanity and sense of humour - can be a bit arty farty at times.  If I were to pick a second to go with George, it would be Daniel Craig as James Bond - the Aston Martin would be an added bonus.  I'm quite enjoying this fantasy.  Yes, they're all a tad younger than I, but there isn't much choice, if any, left in the older ones - forget Mel, he's done his dash!

Afraid Brad doesn't do much for me, Vulch.  I can see the attraction obviously - maybe it's because he has blonde hair.  I've always found dark hair more attractive - probably something to do with all my family being dark haired.  Red's okay too.

You're an awfully naughty man, Mr McGookin, ..0 but you do make me laugh.
