Title: Site difficulties.
Post by: Roger Kettle on November 24, 2009, 11:43:33 AM: I was speaking to Andrew today and he tells me that he---and others---are having problems accessing this site. It would appear that the site itself is difficult to get into and, once in, it's not easy to reply to posts. I explained that the set-up had been altered to combat the flood of pornographic spam we were attracting. Would it be possible for the mods to stick a "how to access" thread in the forum somewhere to help the lurkers get involved? From what Andrew understands, quite a few people have given up trying.

Mince set this up, so I can't do anything myself. I hope he reads this.

I looked - it's gone. Sorry to anyone who saw it and didn't want to, and to anyone who might have wanted to but didn't.

I suspect we may be in for the old problem of unwanted guests on a regular basis. I'd rather not shut the door again, but I do think we need to do something to regulate who joins this site. Those that were having problems recently - didn't they get the option to apply for approval?

An option for the moment is to allow new members only to post in one hidden forum in which they introduce themselves. If they do so nicely, they are allowed to post in the other forums. How does that sound?

Post by: The Peepmaster on November 26, 2009, 11:13:37 AM: Me and Mincey are planning on giving Roger a little job to do, to help in the running of this forum. Maybe it will alleviate this problem.

Basically, we just need Roger to check IP addresses, and to give new visitors the ability to post in the Beau Peep forum, by going into their profiles via the Admin access privileges.

He'll simply need to "Modify Profile", once he's gone into the "Account Related Settings", changing the status displayed as "Primary Membergroup".

This should be reconfigured to "Beau Peep Member".

Fingers crossed, that should work.
