Title: Andy Capp Grammar
Post by: The Peepmaster on December 28, 2009, 07:12:07 PM
I bet you anguished about the grammar in the first frame of this strip (http://comics.com/andy_capp/2009-12-28/), Roger.

I know it's correct, but it's not really the vernacular, is it?

I'm surprised that (1) Andy has more than one shirt. (2) Andy has ironed shirts - we only do that for weddings and funerals.

Yes, I did think about this. I spent about twenty minutes trying to decide if "is" or "are" sounded better in the context of the sentence. In the end, I thought **** it, bung something in. I try to take the intellectual approach.

I love Flo's expression in the first 2 frames of today's strip (http://comics.com/andy_capp/2009-12-29/), Roger.

Yes, it works really well. I hate drawing Andy and Flo full-face in my scripts---it's really difficult!

When are you going to change your avatar back to normal, Roger? (Obviously not yet, as it's still December.) I hope you kept a copy of the original before you altered it.

It'll look a bit stupid come July if Roger hasn't changed it back. ..0

I'm sure it wasn't anything to do with you, Tarquin. Initially I did smell pilchardry at work, I have to admit.

I used a wonderful site (link) (http://www.tineye.com) to find it. You can upload a picture, or link to one, and it will search the internet to find pictures that resemble it.

Apparently, Santa Custer with a wonky eye is still close enough to the original for it to pick up on.

IT'S NOT CUSTER!!!
Sorry, Jack, but I keep having to explain this. It's Charles de Rudio. He WAS at the Little Bighorn but had previously been a drummer boy with Garibaldi, tried to blow up Napoleon lll, was pardoned on the steps of the guillotine, escaped from Devil's Island and commanded an all-black unit in the American Civil War. A truly amazing man.
That's it.

And he looks a bit like Roger Kettle.

I've always wanted an inflatable Napoleon.

What was he doing captaining The New Zealand rugby team?

The grammar is wrong anyway. It should be "none of my shirts am ironed".

Oops, he slipped into Peter mode, without posting from that account.

Jack that was very nice of you to go to all that trouble to find Roger's Custer avatar.

I've a good mind to delete my post.

Find your own damn non-Custer in future!

Besides, how do you know this "Charles de Rudio" didn't use the name "Santa Custer" on occasion?

You don't. So there.

(I don't know... try to do someone a favour... grumble grumble....)

I think we should have a New Year Quiz for Kettle and Mince. (Sounds like a double-act.)

Kettle can have questions on Computing, set by Mince.

Mince has questions about Football, set by Kettle.

Good idea?

Unfair.

Mince knows how to google for answers.

Ah, but Roger is a Dundee United fan. He'll have questions to ask that can never be found on Google.
