My daughter's boyfriend/partner is an artist who has just got his website up and running. I think he has a real talent and, if any of you are interested, you can take a look at his work at www.stevenhigginson.co.uk
A couple of the paintings on his home page (the images keep turning over) mean a lot to me as they portray my daughter---in a red cardigan---and my parents in a still life montage. He has a nice technique where he paints old photographs and includes them in his picture.
He is available for commissions....

Great work, it's wonderful to see young artists producing this 'traditional' style of picture, (not that I'm against any other style).
You can do realism well or badly, and Steven does it very well.
Nice looking girl, are you the buyers of the picture (registered as "Sold" on his site)?
-
Yes - some great stuff there, Roger. I see Stven's inspired by "Old Masters", (although he doesn't mention you by name). Quite a few of the pictures show as being "sold", so he's clearly doing well.
-
Malc, I did buy one of the earlier portraits he did of my daughter. I genuinely like his work and, obviously, hope he does well. Apart from being a Rangers supporter, he's not a bad lad.
-
He's still young, Roger - there's every chance he may mature into a long-suffering Tayside club supporter like us. Meanwhile, I couldn't agree more about his artwork. I recall being hugely impressed by it during my tour of your gallery at Kettle Manor upon my last visit (alongside the magnificent work of your grandfather), and that has been reinforced by the images on his website.
When can we expect the official portraits of yourself and Lady Kettle?
-
Well, of course, we're very busy people and it's difficult to find the time to pose together. What with my wife's polo lessons---and, my goodness, that young Argentinian instructor seems to demand a lot of her time---and my own work schedule, it's not easy to create a window. I'll discuss it with her when she gets back from Buenos Aires in April.
-
You're enjoying this, aren't you?
-
I worry so much about him
-
Who, the polo instructor?
-
Who, the polo instructor?
:D
-
Who, the polo instructor?
No....I'm jealous of my sister-in-law's attentive polo instructor. I worry about my brother because, despite his love of all things Western, I'm sure he'd be hopeless on a horse
-
As opposed to off a horse, where he's a super co-ordinated athletic machine, you mean?
-
Can't imagine Roger being hopeless at anything. ..0
-
As opposed to off a horse, where he's a super co-ordinated athletic machine, you mean?
No..I meant that if it came to an out and out duel for the fair damsel and the Argentinian sneakily chose a modern version of jousting, then Roger might not fare well
-
It would be farewell, you mean?
-
Jousting? He'd have to put on his Kettle metal.
-
You can do virtual jousting on the internet now. I suppose Roger would have to wear chain e-mail.
