Title: Deep thinking.
Post by: Roger Kettle on January 29, 2010, 08:15:52 PM
The world is a planet.
So why do we say, for example, that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer IN the world or the best footballer ON the planet? Why not say he's the best footballer ON the world? Or IN the planet?
I warned you deep thinking was involved.

Do you really think he is? ???

I invented a game, only about 40 minutes ago, when I was cooking an omelette. It's nothing to do with eggs, or cooking. (Or mushrooms, or baked beans, or chips). It was nothing to do with anything I was doing because it formulated in my head.

It's actually a combination of two existing games...

Chess, and Subuteo!

All the characters in Chess, like the horsies and queens for example, have rounded bottoms like the footballers in Subuteo.

It's be good for people who haven't got the intellect for Chess, but can flick really well with their index fingers.

In "Live and Let Die" does Paul McCartney sing "in this world in which we live in" or "in this world in which we’re livin’"?

He's popping round for a beer later, - I'll ask him.

Are you going to challenge him to a game of sub-chess?

Coz they kinda sound the same.

I've invented it in my head. There is no prototype.

D'you think the game idea's a go-er though?

There's a lot of pomposity to do with Chess. I quite like the idea of flicking a prawn full pelt at a bishop saying "check THAT", you ***!

I used 2 wunda that, Mincey. I'd always assumed he'd got the grammar wrong coz he sings "in" twice.

The alternative u giv sounds more likely.

I only say this, Peeps, because you're a self-confessed pedant, but that's a spectacular use of inverted commas.

I've done some research into this. The world is the collection of everything to do with the planet, so everything is in the world. From outer space, we would actually be 'in' the planet as only the planet would be seen. As we're not in outer space, we are on the planet, not in it. Unless you are underground, and then you are.

I like the idea of a mix between Chess and Subuteo, but I do play Chess better. I've thought of a bit of a stumbling block though... how would it work against a computer? I suppose it would only work on those new fangled touch screen computers.

It's a coincidence that Paul is popping round your's later, Peeps... I've been asked to nip round to Bette Midler's, but I've told her I can't go until after Big Brother.

Roger - I don't know the answer to that one, I've never heard of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Nige - I don't like to flick things as it hurts my nail. I would prefer they popped up and you tried to hit them with a rubber hammer.

Hmm... you've given me another chess idea, Diane.

They'd have to flick REALLY well to make the correct knight's move (two along and one up)

Malc, they'd have to use the reflected flick routine to master that move.

Is that as in a mid-night flit?
