Here is my latest mandala 14" and called Autumn Kaleides - started in the autumn but never got around to finishing off until yesterday. Wondering what the guys think, I have friends who are ladies who say they really like them, but hubby and my boys politely refuse to acknowledge their existance even when I have one hung up over the kitchen table -if pressed hubby will say they are just a lot of squiggles or doodles. Is this art or just a load of crap? I like doing them for my own enjoyment so it doesn't stop me doing them, other people's opinion.

I actually like them.
This one reminds me of a pepperoni pizza, and I like them too!
Good for you for doing them - look at fractal art - that's squiggles and doodles (and I like that as well!)
:)
-
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of fractal art Tom - that could be me, I like African stuff.

I think that's rather stunning, Diane, and I'm not just trying to be nice, because I think the other thread you've started tonight is a big pile of steaming poo, but I do like this a lot.
I'm just wondering though, if it wouldn't be even better if you coloured in the white area. It just sort of looks kind of slightly...well...unfinished. But I really can't make up my mind (just had another look, and changed my opinion...again).
-
TTIII, that is just what I pondered yesterday to my mandala buddy Angela:
Thanks Angela :-) I wasn't sure if I did the right thing by leaving the center white but it is growing on me now.
That is eerie eh?
-
It's even more eerie than that, Diane - before I read Tom's remark, I was think pepperoni pizza as well. Spooky! What does it all mean? I don't know, but I think you need to reach for the yellow crayon... no, turquoise... no, wait...
-
I actually threw a pepperoni pizza from the freezer in the oven when I was doing this!
-
Now you're scaring me, Diane!
-
I like it a lot, Diane. What materials do you use?
-
I saw something on TV where Buddhist monks did these in coloured sand.

Obviously pepperoni, but I also have some nice thick paper and use Prismacolor markers (used to be Beryl brand in the U.K.) – I finish off with Prismacolor gold or silver markers.

Did you see the movie Seven Years in Tibet?

....and the oven temperature is what and for how long?
Seriously, I've said before how talented this is. Do you follow a pattern or is this all your imagination?
-
Yes, I love it too.
Amazing how some people feel the need to describe their work as 'art' when in fact it is clearly Art.
Especially when there is so much steaming poo in our modern art galleries.
-
Thanks Malc - I call it art - hubby thinks it's steaming poo thus the compromise 'art'.
They have all been my own designs except for a celtic one I did in which a followed a traditional knot pattern for the centre part.
-
Just looked at it again, Diane, and I'd feel really bad if you filled in the white bits and it wasn't as good, so don't do it.
No offence to your hubby, but he don't know ****!

Tarqs, I would have liked the white to have been a little larger but I made a mistake so had to keep going inward with the black. I am in the mood to do a spring one now - I am doing them sitting in my mini-van in a parking lot in the city as my son has 6 x 3 day, Friday-Sundays over the next few months as he gets his lifeguard and swimming teacher certs. My oldest has them already and now Steve thinks it is a good idea too as you can get a good paying part time job when in uni.
I still hang the mandalas in the living room, even though I know they annoy hubby ;D
-
That's the spirit! ;D
-
I love the colours in this one, Diane. Definitely Art - I wouldn't have the patience to do something like this.
