It's amazing the miniaturisation they could do for microphones at that time. Pity they could not translate the song for the German audience. They might have had Gilbert up for some crime involving minors, promises of marriage and dental treatments.

Around here, people take their "talent" into the Old Folks home - they sing, they dance, they do christmas choirs - the poor old buggers have nowhere to escape. But those old folks were outdoors - they could have got away. Someone must have been prodding them with cattle sticks to stay in formation. Poor old buggers. :'(

When I came to Australia on holiday in 1992, my brother in-law asked "what about that Gilbert O'Sullivan - is he still going?" As O'Sullivan's career was virtually done and dusted by 1975, I knew then that moving to Australia was the equivalent of being marooned, like Ben Gunn on Treasure Island, who had lived on berries and oysters and whose overwhelming desire was for "a little bit o' cheese..."

I have been desperate to see the video. I, just occasionally, log in at work for a quick look see! sadly the video is blocked as my company firewall is just too good for peep! so I have been reading the comments blind so to speak. talk of gilberts, pianos and dairylee and old folks has had me entertained for sure.
I watched it at the weekend, in the luxury of my own home, all excited.
am I allowed to worry about you all!

God, I hated that era. In just about every way. The music was sh*thouse, but I suppose at the same time we had the Police and Queen, so it wasn't all bad.
