Title: Gilbert O'Sullivan
Post by: The Peepmaster on August 26, 2011, 10:50:49 PM
Just watched an interesting documentary, on BBC 4, that followed the singer/songwriter, Gilbert O'Sullivan. I know Roger loved the song, "Nothing Rhymed", as I always have, so I wondered if he managed to catch it too.

Just watched it on iPlayer (thanks, Peepsie), being a huge Gilbert fan of old. What a fascinating insight into a great talent who's still got it in spades, along with the drive to show it to the world, despite the various inner demons that don't make that any easier for him and the odds of his age stacked against him. Boy, do I empathise, Gilbert!

Every time he said it didn't matter, or it was no big deal, you just knew that it damned well did, and it was.

This was vintage O'Sullivan, decades on...

Brilliant!

My thoughts exactly, Tranquil! You could tell he was bothered by certain things just by the way he emphasised that he wasn't! Great talent though.

Yep. Watched the programme and really enjoyed it. It was interesting to hear him say that he was influenced by Spike Milligan---that certainly explains some of his more eccentric lyrics. The staccato bouncing of his left hand on the piano gets a bit repetitive after a while but he produced some wonderful songs.
