Right---I'm off to bed. Got to get up at 4.45 am so that I can get to Edinburgh and catch my flight.
Be good and I'll talk to you next week.
-
Whatever the Portuguese is for bon voyage, do it.

You'll be getting up in about half an hour, so have a lovely holiday, Roger! x
-
Have a super sunny time 8)

I hope you had a nice holiday (since you won't read this until you come back).
-
They were safely at Edinburgh airport just before 9.00 so should be happily at 30,000 feet by now.
Please note I seem happy for them and not too bitter about not managing to be with them for the first time in years :'(
-
I'm with Mince. Hope your holiday was fantastic.
-
In the spirit of precognition, "Welcome back, Roger. Hope you didn't get too suntanned."
-
Bloomin' Ada, that was quick. Seems like only yesterday we were...
Welcome back! YAY!!!!
-
I say we trash the place while he's away.
-
Vandal!
-
Back safe and sound after a great break.
The usual mix of swimming, cold beer and grilled sea bass in beach restaurants. Now that I'm fully envigorated and re-charged, I look forward to sleeping better at my desk tomorrow.
-
Did you catch your own fish?
-
Welcome back, Roger! 8)

Do you ever dream of moving there permanently? Not that I'm trying to get rid of you, like.

I've often wondered the same thing, Malcolm. Given that Roger is a freelance writer, and can effectively work from anywhere, (given the power of email and the internet), in his shoes I'd be tempted to extend such sojourns to far longer than a week.
Mind you, it wouldn't be easy to watch Dundee United from such a distance.

Surely they'd be sandals? with socks......

Nah, I wouldn't want to live in Portugal---or Montana, for that matter. For me, the joy of these places, which I dearly love, is the mental relaxation that comes with NOT working. It would be a whole different story if I was having to write for a living while staying there. The pleasure comes from switching off my brain for a week and enjoying the scenery, the beer and eating out most nights.
I'm very happy here in Scotland but I often wonder what would have happened if I'd discovered Montana earlier in my life. I feel completely at home there and love everything about it----the history, the jaw-dropping scenery and the friendliness of every single person I've met there. Next April, I'm heading out again. A couple of nights in Denver, then off to Montana and Wyoming for a week of touring. Bliss.
