Title: Peepmaster and I
Post by: Mince on December 20, 2011, 10:40:15 AM
Peepmaster and I, of course, were jointly responsible for this site coming into existence. But did you know that you can see this reflected in the url - cameldung? How did we come up with the name? We each decided to each choose a word. I chose a word that described myself, and Peepmaster chose a word that described himself. I chose "camel" since St Augustine made it a symbol of the humble man shouldering life's burdens without complaint.

It wasn't because your English teacher gave you the hump, then?

I chose "dung" because I thought that was the perfect reflection of Mince.

There is nothing wrong with that sentence. The first "each" refers to the fact that it was not just one of us who decided, and the second refers to the fact that it was not just one of us who chose.

I do - what's wrong with that?

I have the first three seasons - it went downhill after that.

Augustine was a git of a man, an irritating oik with a blancmange for a brain. Google it.

No wonder they made him a saint.

I've only seen the first three episodes. It's a bit American.

First show of season one was the best all-time episode.

I just think it's great that the Yanks have made a series about nerds, that much maligned (in America) demographic.

I actually like The Big Bang Theory.
I was just picking up on Mince's Sheldon-like pedantry.

Actually, there is something wrong with the sentence.  I know that they are acceptable nowadays, but thanks to my mother, split infinitives scream at me! Please put the "each" somewhere else next time, Mincey!  ;D

Then sort out the split infinitive in this one by just moving the words inside the infinitive.

He wanted to more than double the price.

:)

It's too late on Christmas Eve and I've also had a couple of wines which are impairing my faculties somewhat, so can't work out how just to move the words. I would have to change the sentence and say, "He wanted to increase the price to more than double the original." :-)

Is it, "He wanted more than to double the price", Oyster-Brain?

Happy Christmas to all my followers.

Happy Christmas to all my followers.
It should have said, " He wanted to rip us off, by charging double the rate."
