Owing to the fact that there's serious illness in the family (again - b-o-o-oring!!) we were all sitting in my mum's living room and as usual in my family, we were finding humour in the most mundane things. I brought up the subject of Tim Vine's Flag Hippo sketch. My lot had never heard of it. I acted it out. Tears of laughter.

"Flag Hippo" is good, but lacking in the suspense of "Pen Behind The Ear"

He has moments of supreme daftness which I enjoy a lot---usually barrages of extremely silly puns.
Funnily enough, I read his brother's book last year---Jeremy Vine's It's All News To Me---and I recommend it highly. Interesting, funny and, at one stage, deeply moving.
"Of course I'm not crying---there's something in my eye", I said to my wife when she walked in while I was reading it.

Don't know if it's worth a separate thread, but Spike Milligan's doomed series Curry And Chips is worth a look on You Tube. It wasn't successful at the time, being pulled after 6 episodes. It was written by Johnny Speight. I didn't find it racist, just incredibly clumsy in its tough-love attitude to combating racism. I found it to be more sexist and anti-working class. Virtually all the blue collar characters are shirking layabouts, threatening to strike at the drop of a hat.

Well worth watching, Malc. I have to admit that it's the first time I have ever actually found Tim Vine laugh-out-loud funny. It may also be the last, but at least I'll have this memory. :)
