Title: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Post by: Diane CBPFC on August 09, 2013, 06:24:42 AM
When I first watched Raiders of the Lost Ark 32 years ago, I thought it was absolutely awesome, then when I watched it with my boys 10-12 years ago it was still awesome – an awesome classic. Then we discovered Kate had never watched these shows so I watched it with her tonight and after telling her it was going to be awesome, I was disappointed by the fake looking sets and the cheesy special effects although the humour was still great – movies have progressed so much over the years.

Diane, I remember seeing this in the cinema when it first came out and being blown away by that stunning opening sequence. There was a lot of Spielberg magic in there. I'll take your advice and won't spoil my memories by watching it again!

I watched it recently and was still blown away. I've seen it probably a couple of dozen times and it's good every time. The same was true with Jaws. I saw that film at the cinema with an ex-student friend, and we both loved it.

Can't believe that the film is 32yrs old.  :o

I think, like Roger, I'll leave it alone as I prefer to think of Harrison the way he was back then...older looking than he was in his next 10 films.  ;D

My friend says for these kind of movies (like Star Wars too) it is best to watch them on an older smaller-screen TV. We got a big TV this year and you see all the wrinkles on the stars. Some of the movie magic is gone for sure by upgrading.

John William's music by itself makes the film worth watching.

Mince, I agree with you about Jaws---a magnificent film with some lovely little touches. The scene with Robert Shaw when there is the first tiny click on his fishing reel is just perfect.
