A special festive message for my sister, Diamond Lil of this parish, who will be spending Christmas in hospital. A bronchial/asthmatic problem means that she will avoid my cooking this year and, instead, will be enjoying the far superior hospital variety. Hopefully, she'll be back home by the end of the week. My daughter's mock-annoyance at her aunt's post-dinner rendition of a Neil Diamond medley will be much missed.

Having the misfortune to work in a hospital, may I suggest that she eats the sheets and sleeps between indestructible slices of porridge. Her speedy recovery is thus guaranteed.

Oh no, get well Diamond Lil - sad to be in hospital at Christmas but better to be able to breathe than be with the family. (especialy if there are a lot of Brussles sprouts involved).

It's almost becoming a Christmas tradition that you are about get high speed broadband, Diane. I pray that it will be this year for you. Most of us take it for granted these days, but I know I'd be lost without it.

Hacked off - I come out the pub after work this afternoon, remembered I forgot to get my papers and spent ages trying to find a shop with some left. Bought the Star, and whatdoyouknow, they forgot to print Beau Peep (AGAIN!!). >:(

I will be getting high speed before the end of January one way or another as they are pulling the dial-up service in this area at the end of the month. Most people have been able to get high speed – I think it is just me and my one neighbor in this little no service area. The question is, will I be able to get affordable high speed – the one company is putting up a new tower – if that works we will be happy. If not and I am left stuck with the official replacement for dial-up – I won’t be able to afford to use it much at $51.20 a GB
