We are waiting for the highways not to be skating rinks, then we plan to drive to the city to see the second Hobbits movie.
Our top DVD this year has been the new superman movie "Man of Steel" The trouble in our family is that some of us (#1 child Evan, #3 child Kate) take epic movies much too seriously whilst others of us like to make quips throughout the show. Couldn’t help but saying out loud during the scene where Superman’s bio daddy shows him the “Superman” suit on the abandoned ship – “Oh, and Grandma sent you these Christmas jammies”. That was where we lost Evan.

;D
I didn't really watch much this Christmas. Dipped into "It's a Wonderful Life" just for the mushy bits but that was about it. There are a couple of channels that show absolutely dire made-for-television movies which all appear to be about Santa's dippy daughter saving Christmas for Manhattan orphans. I didn't see the Queen's annual speech either but, apparently, she failed to mention Beau Peep yet again.

Miracle on 34th Street - Matilda Version.

I'm afraid that this year, the telly scunnered me more than ever, so God bless the horror channel for keeping me sane. Warlords of Atlantis, Twins of Evil (Peter Cushing...what a puritan), what can I say? What would Christmas be without some classic old movies and a few witches burned at the stake ?
God bless us everyone.

Life Blood tomorrow at 0045...don't say I didn't let you know. ;)

Watched Gravity last week, well pleased with that one effects are stunning.
The Butler, last night, afraid I turned it off after an hour, but maybe on a different day I'd like it.
Out of the furnace with Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson, good movie but very violent.
Just watched the first 10 minutes of Rush about James Hunt and Nicki Lauda, this looks brilliant so far.
Of course it wouldn't be Christmas without seeing National lampoon's Christmas vacation.

I found it one of the most boring films of the decade.

Bit harsh...there's still 6 and bit years to go in this one yet.

I have three old movies on VHS that I watch every holiday season and try to drag the family into – we caught “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” on the TV, but they CUT out some of the best bits out so will be sticking with the VHS in future. The others are “Muppet’s Christmas Carol” and last night we got around to “Trapped in Paradise” with Nicolas Cage. I must admit that I did fall asleep for a while in the middle of that one but it is all about family traditions and being together and I think I got away with it.
I am pretty sure that I can’t watch Sandra Bullock in a serious movie anymore, like Tim Curry before her, she has crossed that line for me where I can’t but smile when I see her face.
I bought the complete Dad’s army and we have been watching a that a few episodes at a time for several weeks now – it amuses me and my daughter greatly. Yesterday it was the episode where the German U-boat commander orders nice crispy golden chips – not nasty soggy ones.
-
Tim Curry...my favourite actor of all time. He is da man. There's not a guy on this planet can wear a basque and fishnets like him. Great serious actor too...and what about "It"? I love horrors but that film seriously creeped me out.
We bought old comedy too funnily enough this year. A boxset of "Porridge" for my father that we're desperate for him to open so we can get a free watch at it. Classic comedy is well named for a reason.
Altogether now..."Norman Stanley Fletcher..."
:)

I can't stand Christmas movies with D list actresses who play brilliant ice skating college girls who are also physics whizzes in cities with no litter, and all the guys are clean-shaven.
That was only one movie, and I couldn't watch it for more than ten minutes and that's as much of the plot as I could garner. However, all the other movies seemed to be versions of it.

Exactly why I watch the horror channel. "Rabies" just finishing..."Life Blood" here I come. :)

I only have very faint recollections of “Porridge” just had to google it. That would have been a nice gift to wrap up in a basket with instant porridge packets. :)

The Buttcheeks do things better than that.
We falsely accused him of criminal activity, reported him to the police and now, not only can he watch "Porridge", he can experience the lifestyle first hand. See, it's going that extra yard at Xmas that makes all the difference.
(Far cheaper than a nursing home too...win/win if you ask me)

Thank goodness you didn’t buy him “Titanic” – the poor old bugger would be bobbling about on an ice flow as we head into the New Year.

Bobbling about, I'll accept. If he starts singing Celine Dion, I'll blowtorch his ice flow personally. >:(

I have to agree with your reaction to Dion, but James Horner's score is stunning, especially at 3:15 in this track.
-
And this is stunning as well.

What can I say, Mince?
It's haunting...it's atmospheric...but yet poignant, subtle and other poncey words as yet unthought-of. Now I'm no music expert, but within that classic I'm sure I heard those stringy things, the brassy coloured metal things and, dare I venture, the bangy round things. Am I correct? I tell you, if his wee brother hadn't sat in that corner doing untold damage to pies with his thumb, they could have been rivals to The Proclaimers, The Alexander Brothers...maybe even Musical Yoof.
The second clip you posted, "A Building Panic" was outstanding, only bettered by his next track, "I'm shitting It Now", in my opinion. Although, in fairness the films last two tracks, "Why Has My Willie Shrank" and "F**k me, I'm Drowning" were really good too.
Well done for raising the tone of the board.
:)

I'm trying to attach a Smiley to this post, but ever since I installed that device that removes all mention of ##### ##### (M I L E Y C Y R U S) from my internet experience, I can't use Smileys either.

Do I detect sarcasm there?
The first thing I thought when I heard the music in Titanic in the cinema was "Ooh, the same composer as Star Trek 2".
-
Sarcasm? Moi?
Titanic is one of the most boring films I have ever seen. Not even the nudity of Kate Winslet's body double saved the day. I knew the story. The ship sailed...the ship hit an iceberg...the ship sank. The end. Anyone who hasn't seen the film and is now reading this, I have just freed up 194 minutes and 55 secs of your life (no need to thank me). Now, if the ships band had been able to strike up Monty Pythons "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" or Status Quo's "Down Down", I would at least have emitted a chuckle.
And I'm afraid Leodongo deux Cappuccino or whatever he's called was just a ham. He couldn't even act the part of a drowning man properly. Where was all the wild thrashing of arms, the bulging eyes and the facial terror? Not our Jack...not him. Splashing and thrashing are for the plebs, not for the serious "actorrrr" types.
Titanic indeed...Pah !!
Ooooooo..."Dance of the Dead" is on Horror at 9pm...must go get popcorn and bubblegum bottles looked out.
-
No, Gravity was boring.
Titanic was not bad, but they spend too much time running around below deck.
-
So, you're a horror man. Romance does not interest you?
-
He's chatting you up, Sandy.

So that would that be bromance or just romince? :-[

So, you're a horror man. Romance does not interest you?
It used to, but marriage is great for knocking that nonsense out of you. <-
Listen, if you think that Titanic is a romantic film then you're one porthole short of a poop deck. It is shameless product placement by the Harland and Wolff company. If memory serves me right, every time you looked away and then back to the film, there was a bloody big ship with the word "Titanic" emblazoned across it. That's not even approaching subtle. I refuse to go watch it with Mrs Buttcheeks, because all I would get is "Well if you really loved me, you would buy me a Titanic". I'm not a miserable man, it's not the cost, but her ornament cabinet is full and I can't think of anywhere else she could put one.
At least horrors are honest, factual and dare I say, real. We've all worried about where to find a decent virgin to sacrifice, we've all had to run away from hairy werewolves after leaving the local pub and who hasn't had to shoo away a vampire from the window...worse than bloody moths they are.
Nah, you can keep your supposed chick-flicks, Mince me old mucker, real men do horrors (at least once or twice in their lives anyway) ;D
-
I haven't seen a decent horror film in decades, although Drag Me To Hell was fun.
Do you like the Vincent Price horrors?

Horrors seem to rely to much on effects now, rather that trying to mentally scare the poop out of you and I think that's why they're not the greatest anymore.
I was never a big Vincent Price fan, although "House of Wax", "Pit and the Pendulum" and of course, "Fall of the House of Usher" were all excellent films. I was recently trying to read Edgar Allen Poe (sadly, the respect this authors name should command has forever been damaged by The Goons, "Ying Tong Yiddle I Po" song...well, maybe that's just me mind you), and got a good way into Mr Poe before studying took over.
The only film recently that I couldn't even bring myself to watch from behind a cushion...Titanic. Truly horrible.
;)

Who brought up Titanic? :-[
-
We ventured from our hermitage and headed to the city for a grand adventure – the place was teaming with life, people and vehicles buzzing about everywhere! Finally got to see The Hobbit 2, it was awesome on the big screen. My movie ticket went in our family “Awesome Things of 2014” jar.

Still have The Hobbit to see, Diane. I am saving it for some time in the next fortnight, as a treat. I have basically taken a fortnight off work to cram for my Uni exams and I'm sure it will be a welcome distraction.
As we say in Scotland, I am now officially "keeching it". :(

No one. It's still down there.

I don’t know if you should watch the movie in the middle of a university education – after seeing it you may change your mind, and want to be an actor or a movie chicken handler instead of what you are currently studying up on.
-
I like the sound of being a movie chicken handler. What qualifications do I need?
