Title: Alberta fires.

Diane, I hope you and your family and friends are all safe. The scale of this disaster looks absolutely horrific.

Thanks Roger - two of my nieces had homes up there with their families years ago but have long since moved away. It is a "temporary" town for the oilfield workers many from Newfoundland - the houses cost two or three times what they would in other places in the province as there is always a shortage. Not many people go up there thinking it is for life - just to make the high wages for a few years then set up elsewhere.

Glad to hear it, Diane. I knew the situation was North of you but was concerned you might have friends and family up there.

When the oil is selling there are already not enough homes for families in Fort Mac (why the houses cost so much) many workers live in work site trailer camps for something like 10 on 5 off and go back and forth. The worst part of this will be that even more families will be split up, perhaps as long as for years.

We have been under fire advisory with a 900 hectare blaze about 50 km way near Little Smoky - it went from 5 to 800 hectares in about 10 hours so there was a chance it could travel with the hot days and winds - they had 15 water bombers working on it at one point - today they have it contained at around 600 hectares and we are forecast rain on THursday and Friday. You could feel the smoke in the air. People were evacuated to our nearest town and the Ag Plex was available for them to house their horses etc.  It has been a worrying few days to say the least but I think things are under control now.

That's scary stuff, Diane. I truly hope the rain arrives, as predicted.

:-) We got a gentle rain in the night and continuing this morning :-)

I kid you not, now they are calling for snow on Friday.

Okay, I'm a bit confused: did the fire take place in that plant pot?
