Title: Happy 65th Birthday, Roger
Post by: Mince on June 23, 2016, 10:01:59 AM
Happy birthday, Roger!

I've moved half of the yearly Custer quiz up from September to your birthday.

1. What did Custer perfume his hair with?

2. What was Custer's childhood nickname?

3. At what age did Custer get promoted to the rank of brigadier?

4. What item from the Civil War did Libbie Custer specify in her will should be given to the Smithsonian Institution?

5. Why was Custer twice court martialed?

That should keep you quiet for a while.

Thank you, gents. You warm an old age pensioner's heart!
Mincy, off the top of my head....
2)..."Autie".
5)...The table that the papers to end the Civil War had been signed on?

Hang on, hang on - why was Custer court martialed over a table? And is "Autie" a typo for 'Auntie' (and why was he called either?)?

Hang on, hang on - why was Custer court martialed over a table?

It was the easiest way to spank him.

As for 'Autie', many attribute this to Custer's early attempts to pronounce his middle name 'Armstrong', but in truth the name was Custer's attempt to repeat a word often used to describe him: 'naughty', something that only came to light in 1912 when Squatting Bull was interviewed by Headline Harry on the Titanic just before it sank.

Happy Birthday Roger - 65 used to be old didn't it - now it seems, well still old really.

Hope you had a happy one.  :D

Thanks, everyone. Normally, my birthday is front page news in the UK but, apparently, some kind of referendum took place, resulting in my special occasion being pushed aside.
Mincy....
1)...Cinnamon.
3)...23.
5)...His treatment of deserters and abandoning his men to pop home and see his missus.

Yep, those are correct. The other five questions of this year's quiz are going to be harder. I'll have them ready in six month's time - on December 23rd - so that should be good enough for a Christmas present. I might even send you a dairy-free chocolate cake.

Happy Birthday Roger  ;D Just a few more years before I also hit 65, but I'm not speeding.
