Programmer love acronyms. My favourites are WET and DRY. Make sure your programs are DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) otherwise they will be WET (Write Everything Twice). Okay, the grammar's a bit off, and it should be WEALT (Write Everything At Least Twice), but it's still cool.

No, it was a cartoon programme. Not sure of the spelling.
-
Yes, I'm getting the feeling you've not quite grasped the concept of acronyms.

There's no need for acronymy! (*nono*)

I may have mentioned I served at Her Majesty's Pleasure at one time, I was also in the Royal Navy [giggle]. In those days there were strange devices for communicating, there was a pen, paper, envelopes and weird little sticky things that went on to the envelopes, can't remember why. I would write to my beloved, and occasionally to my wife as well, and would add various acronyms to the envelopes. Here's what I remember, see if you know them all?
SWALK [Thought I'd start you off easy]
NORWICH
ILYTTDFATCCSH
HOLLAND
IMUS
BURMA
LOML
-
HOLLAND - flat place in Europe.
NORWICH - flat place in Britain
ILYTTDFATCCSH - flat place in Wales.
BURMA - is that flat too?
Am I getting the hang of it yet?

In and around Dundee, the colloquial word for "face" is "puss". (This rhymes with "bus"). Apparently, among the medical staff at the city hospital, the acronym R.I.T.P. is commonly used. Whenever a patient comes in with a broken nose and blood everywhere, he's asked how it happened. The answer most often heard is "I was minding my own business when this boy gave us a Rap In The Puss."

The world seems to revolve around acronyms just now. It's almost as if we live at a pace too quick to be bothered with using a normal amount of words. I thought during my 30 years in the NHS, I had been in an environment that could never be outdone...I was wrong. Moving to the PFI side of Healthcare far outstrips its poorer cousin. I am in the midst of compiling a book of them. Rather alarmingly, there are people who have been there for several years, who have just accepted the letters without asking what they actually stand for! Bizarre.

You should put that phrase into Beau Peep. We'll all look out for it.
