Title: Question for Everyone
Post by: Mince on July 05, 2017, 04:36:00 PM
On a scale between Roger and Bill Gates, how good are you with computers?

Elon Musk.
Loved his "Crocodile Rock".
Look, this constant denigrating of my computer skills is both tiresome and unfair. Yes, I do have problems opening my laptop lid (I think it's a vacuum thing) but the fact that I'm communicating on here would suggest that I have, at least, a rudimentary understanding of the processes involved. I can also send and receive emails and look at naked ladies on YouTube. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what else is necessary.

It's not really about us though, is it? I think someone wants to assert that there's something that that particular someone is better at than anyone else here. Well someone doesn't know about my secret computer skills, because I've kept them secret so far, and never before skilled them in the public domain, which incidentally is a computerish term for something that hosts web things. Other computerish things are portacalls and busses. So there!

I think you'll find that was Steve Irwin. I know my WWF wrestlers too.  :\

GRAMMAR POINT: in case you were unaware, when you attach an 's' to a noun, it means you're referring to a plural. Unfortunately, removing the 's' is even worse, leaving people thinking you have some kind of 'expertise'. How about changing the whole phrase 'computer skills' to something more exact and concrete, such as 'amateur lid-opening ability'?

I can write HTML, XML, a smattering of Perl, two of my last three desktop PC's I built myself [I got lazy on the last one], fluent in FTP, have been known to dabble into Object Orientated Programming, a whiz on multiple software programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, QuickBooks, Sage, and a host of other proprietary programs/systems.   Not so hot maintaining a network but isn't that why we have lackeys?

Does any of this count?

Probably not...

. . . except that he doesn't post anymore.

Perhaps the Beau Peep Notice Board would be better now as read-only nostalgia.  8)

I have body parts that provide all the nostalgia I need, thanks all the same.
