Title: Happy Lunar New Year
Post by: Diane CBPFC on January 29, 2025, 11:09:36 PM
Inspired by the Larson cartoon "God makes snakes" - "Boy, these things are a cinch" as god rolls out snakes from clay.

Happy Year of the Snake everyone.

I love this mad dash of mid-winter holidays: Robbie Burns, LNY, Groundhog Day, Valentine's, Family Day weekend (ice fishing). I like to have a theme to decorate and cook for, at my age its better than thinking up something myself.

And a Happy New Year of the Snake to you, too. (There's something I've never typed before).
I'm not sure we celebrate many of the "Days" you mention but I hope you enjoy them all. Please post the results of your ice fishing exploits!

I hope you at least do Pancake Tuesday?

To be fair most people don't celebrate these minor holidays here much either.

Groundhog Day is easy, stand a sausage up in a mound of mash and give them a mustard face to enjoy eating while you watch Bill Murry's Groundhog Day.

It is possible I have spent a few decades too many isolated in the bush.

Many years ago, I wrote a cartoon about the moment Robinson Crusoe discovered he was not alone on his island. "I will name you after the day I found you---greetings, Pancake Tuesday!"
Believe it or not, I got paid for that.

Just did Valentine's on Friday and Flag Day yesterday. It was the 60th anniversary of the maple leaf flag and people in Canada were making an unusually big fuss of the day, what with threats of becoming the 51st American state.

Canada will become America's 51st State. Gaza will become some sort of American theme park. Greenland will be bought/invaded by America. It's comforting to know that the world's greatest power is run by such a rational individual. (I'm writing this from my home on the Gulf of America).
Happy Valentine's Day!

We are indeed privileged to live in the Trump Motherland, Roger.

Just trying get over the fact I'm actually older than the Canadian maple leaf flag.

I did a few more holidays, made leek soup and Welsh cakes for St. David's day and those fantastic lemon crepe style pancakes last night.

February 27 is Pokémon Day. As nothing was orgonised in our town or area, I just drove around and handed out cookies to people playing. Made two new (real people) friends to invite to raids etc.

Pokemon Day? Good grief.
I declare today as The World's Gone Mad Day.

Earlier this week, I decided on a Clean My Office Day. I found a photo of a long-haired youth celebrating his 21st Birthday. On closer inspection, it turned out to be me, trying hard to look cool. I did not. I also found a letter, dated February 2004, from an animation company. It outlined plans for an animated TV series of Beau Peep and was attached to about a dozen illustrated pages of storyboard. There was also a list of merchandising targets. Hmmm. 21 years on, do you think I should give up hope?
On the plus side, I DID find 47 pence-worth of coins.

Beau Peep is a timeless classic, Roger - never give up hope. After all, it's the motto of the Foreign Legion! I did a French O-Grade at school.

I think we should be the judges of that that photo - can you take a snap of it with your smartphone and post it here?

My smartphone is out of commission at the moment. The hook where you hang the earpiece is broken.

I imagine Rogue Heroes season one, set in the desert would be a lot like Beau Peep. Well what the other soldiers would be doing not Beau or Dennis.

Since I last posted I did a stint as a Federal Government employee - I did my civic duty and became a Registration Officer working an election polling station.

The world of paid work came as quite a shock to me I tell ya.

Well done, Diane! Interesting political times in Canada at the moment. It must be like living in a tenement block with a raving idiot in the apartment below...
