Just a quick note to say Happy Christmas to all the Peepsters on here, and hope everyone has a healthly and prosperous 2008. Thanks and best wishes, as ever, to Andrew and Roger for keeping everyone laughing.
I'm off to Portugal in a few hours to spend Xmas and the new year in the Algarve where I hope it'll be a touch warmer than it is here at the moment.
Best wishes to everyone and see you next year.
-
And the same to you, Rob. As you know, I love the Algarve so I reckon it's impossible to have anything but a good time. Enjoy.
-
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Rob! I hope you manage to pick up a nice tan...and some hair...a few teeth perhaps...
-
Have a great time, Rob. Thanks for your good wishes. Avoid the time-share touts, tuck into delicious lobster washed down with Mateus Rose whilst gazing out over the golden sands of Alburfiera, and think of those of us shivering in Scotland.
-
Arrrgh, those bloody time share touts. I hate them. When we holidayed in Malta many years back, they were like flies, all young Brits prepared to annoy other Brits during the day so they could party with the other time share touts at night. For them it was like Club 18-30 with commission.
I really annoyed one of the time share companies by befriending a young Scottish tout - he was absolutely hopeless at the job, and broke. He was too honest and no-one could understand his accent! You could tell he was starving. I accepted his offer to attend a timeshare seminar (which meant he would be paid commission), making sure that the timeshare execs who signed me in knew which tout had brought me there. When they heard his name, they looked at each other as if to say "you are kidding...!"
I then took great delight in defying the bastards and refused all their inducements to go any further. They virtually stalked me all the way out of the building, asking more and more questions, promising the earth if I would just sign on the dotted line, in fact they were quite menacing.
I talked to some of the local Maltese business people and their attitude was that timeshare touts were just trying to earn a living. I made a point of telling them that as a holidaymaker I wouldn't return to a place which has timeshare touts.
Problem with Malta is the island is divided down the middle between those who support Italy and others who support the UK. Many Maltese are quite glad to see British holidaymakers annoyed by other Brits, especially if the by-product was more Brits with disposable income buying holiday apartments!
Think of of it - timeshare means that a property is occupied all year round by people who spend their money in your shop, yet none of them have the right to live there permanently.
To an anti Brit who only wants your money, not your company , what's not to like?
Oh, and Merry Christmas in this time of loving and giving.
-
A merry Yule tide felicitation to you all. May all your presents be just what you want, the alcohol just as you like it,and the company
convivial and merry.
Peter
-
Merry whisky and a happy new beer to one and all.
-
Happy Christmas all.
As most of you know, my wife and I normally go to Tenerife just after the New Year celebrations.
This year we decided not to book up and instead have booked up for Benidorm in July.
I was just thinking that its a good job we didn't book for January given my present situation.
-
Jolly Holly!
Have a great Christmas everyone!
:)

As my earlier Christmas greeting was directed at Rob alone, I guess it's now time to spread the joy further afield.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I appreciate the time that you all spend looking in here---it is a genuine pleasure for me. This electronic age---which, as you know, has all but passed me by---means that people like Diane in Canada and Joan and Malc in Australia have managed to join us in our U.K. virtual sitting room. There's something great about that. Anyway, I'm not going to name you all individually but you know who you are---all the regulars who have made me laugh out loud many times and, on one dreadful occasion, made me unashamedly cry.
Once again, have a very Merry Christmas.

All my hard work on those themes and do I get a mention in "Roger's Christmas Message"? That's the last time I stand to attention while reading it.
-
And a special mention for Mince.
-
Given that it's late, and an afterthought, you could at least have put it in a bigger font.
-

Yes - I'm sure we all believed that you actually stood up!
-
Hey, this is The Rog that we're talking about here. He even has a wave, like the Queen.
-
It looks like Roger has finally accepted Mince into the fold. Am I right to be worried...?

No, Peeps. I'm sure there's no cause for concern: it was getting late; Roger was tired and he'd imbibed a little too much. You know how maudlin he gets when he's had a drink...... ::)

And it can also make you forget to type the word "pies" after mince. Let's hear it for those little seasonal delicacies. YAY!

The "I Will Always Love You" thread was a thinly-disguised message for you, Peeps.

A very Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for all the "laugh out loud" moments I've experienced on here in the last year, after it entered my head to have a look see if Roger had a presence online. Apart from finding out that Roger is indeed a successful cartoonist (our paths hadn't crossed for nearly 30 years and I've been in Australia for most of that time), I've enjoyed coming on here for a number of reasons - number one being there's usually something to make me smile. I suppose you might expect that from a forum where the majority of members are cartoonists, but the "hangers-on" have their moments, too. ;D
Wherever you are in the world, I hope you have a lovely Christmas with lots of good will and cheer!
Joan

Thinly-disguised, but, yes - I noticed it has the same number of words as "You owe me a fiver". I'll put it in the post.

The C.B.P.F.C. has a tradition just like the Queen with her Christmas Day message to the nation.
On behalf of the C.B.P.F.C. I would like to extend my warm Christmas wishes to Roger and Andrew and to other Peepsters around the world and update you on the goings on in our club.
The club membership continues to be fairly low ? however I did gain a few pounds this year; by weight not volume, our numbers are looking good.
The club participated in the annual Beau Peep day of Merrymaking in May; good fun was had by all however the neighbour does want his ladder back.
This year the C.B.P.F.C. intends to share book number 1 with the entire world through the means of cyberspace. We here at the C.B.P.F.C. have never had a goal or purpose before so we are proud of ourself for thinking of something so fab.
The C.B.P.F.C. has once again ? for the eighth year in a row - voted for our ?Cartoonist of the Year? and yes, it is Jim Unger.
Merry Christmas!

Did you just call me a "hanger on"?

I think she just called all of us (apart from the few cartoonists...) "hangers on!...

I think the smiley shows that it was meant in jest. On this site, we are all equal.
Except me, of course. I'm King.

Bravo, Diane! And fraternal greetings from the G.B.B.P.F.C., wishing y'all a rattlin' good Christmas and a flush 2008. Incidentally, if you require any advice about enlarging membership, I get several emails a day on the subject I could forward to you.

I want to be a hanger-on! :'(
You are, Tarquin, you are! ;D
-
You can be a "hanger-on" on your days off from cartooning, Tranks.
I'd just like to extend wishes from the S.S.G.B.B.P.F.C.I.O.B.D. (Scottish Section of the Great British Beau Peep Fan Club, Isle Of Bute Division).

Now, are the C.B.P.F.C., G.B.B.P.F.C. and S.S.G.B.B.P.F.C.I.O.B.D. divisions of the D.D.D.D.D.D?

Forgive me, it was late at night and I was imbibing a little just to alleviate the stress of presents still to be wrapped, decorations still to be put up, etc, etc - don't know where "hangers-on" came from - I meant fine, upstanding non-cartoonist members of this forum who also make me laugh. :)
I did think later that there are actually only a few cartoonists who post, but if you look at the actual membership, I think there are quite a few who have joined, including the guy who does "Ginger Meggs", a famous Australian cartoon strip - can't remember his name at the moment, but will have a look at the Sunday paper later.
-
PS I'm never going to live this down, am I? Maybe I should ask Mince to change my user name to "biggest hanger-on of all", or "foot in mouth". ;D
-

Joan, you're thinking of James Kemsley. Tragically, James died less than three weeks go at the horribly early age of 59, after a lengthy battle with motor neurone disease. It didn't stop him from coming over to these shores a couple of years back with his young son, Sebastian, to attend the Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival. He was great company then, and I'm certain will be very fondly remembered at next year's event. A very sad loss to the world of cartooning and everyone who knew him.
-
My thoughts entirely.
James shared my fascination with the Old West and the Little Bighorn and we exchanged views on this as well as cartoon-related topics. We had hoped to meet up when he came over but I just couldn't make it....something that makes me doubly sad.
-
I never met James, but had email communications I remember. His enthusiasm for the art and associated gatherings, clubs, newsletters etc was infectious. A top man.

That's awful news, I didn't realise. I'm sure it would have been reported in the news here, but I was probably in NZ when it happened. Ginger Meggs is still being signed "Kemsley", so perhaps his son is doing it now. I always read Ginger, Hagrid, Blondie and For Better or For Worse in the Sun Herald. It's become a bit of a ritual, where I read them before I read the actual paper. Ginger reminds me a bit of Oor Wullie in an Australian setting.
