Further to Joan mentioning Skype in another thread:
I and a bunch of my cartooning buddies here in Oz tried a conference-style Skype linkup a few years back.
It didn't go well. At least two of them sounded like robots and there was dropout and scratchy noises all over.
I'm assuming it's all better nowadays, has anyone else tried Skype or Voip?

It's very clear for me between myself and my sister. Haven't had any problems with sound as yet. I also use it for sending text messages to mobiles if I'm at home, as it's cheaper and I can type the message faster!

I use Yahoo Messenger to chat with birds in the Philippines. There's a webcam on my laptop.

I didn't know you could send text messages via Skype. Is this only for Australia or can you do it world-wide?
-
I assume you can do it worldwide. You have to buy Skype credit, but I'm pretty sure you would be able to do it anywhere you can use Skype, certainly the UK.
I think this would be the one for you, Vulture:

Thanks, Joan. I'm not very technical so I'll see number two son at the week-end and get him to explain it all to me.

Whatever happened to good old fashioned carrier pigeons?
