Title: Australian TV
Post by: Malc on August 28, 2008, 02:29:18 AM
We were just treated to Australia's new TV sensation "Hole In The Wall" last night, a rip-off of a Japanese game called Human Tetris.

It involved a bunch of so-called celebrities trying to copy the exact shape of a hole in a polystyrene wall which is bearing down on them.

If they match the shape, they pass through the wall, if not, it bumps them into an ice cold swimming pool.

That's the whole show, honest.

Does your television have an on/off button?

Is your television capable of flight followed by inside-crushing impacts?

You have been warned, folks - it's heading your (our) way....

It's a winning formula, involving celebrity, pain, humiliation...and especially the effects of icy cold water on people of both genders wearing skin-tight Spandex.

Mince, it's 100% right up your street.

I agree with one of the comments underneath the video - probably only funny when it's the Japanese doing it.  Unless I might want to see some of those so-called celebrities dunked in icy cold water, d'you think, Malc?  Can't wait to get home and watch it.  <-

It's stupid!

Right from the beginning all through to the end - every bit.

I won't be watching that.

Ah - I see the conversation has moved on, to Dr Who.

Don't take his name in vain.

Well, the kids (boy 11, girl 9) loved it, Malc. Mind you, they also still love Dr Who.

It's of extreme embarrassment to me that two of MY grandchildren (13 girl and 11 boy) like Dr Who. I can't disown them because, other than that, they're perfectly normal.

Don't be too harsh on them, Vult - they are at an impressionable age. They'll grow out of it, I'm sure.

Yeah, they should grow out of Doctor Who once they've reached the age of about seven. That's when manly interests like football, golf, and camping in the Lake District usually kicks in.

I watched HITW last night with my son, we were both lying on separate sofas. He could hear me laughing and then saying "this is garbage" followed by another laugh as another idiot got nudged into the pool.

Yes, I laughed. Maybe twice, but it was a reflex, not an actual expression of appreciation. I laugh when a gopher falls over in a dead faint on Funniest Home Videos. It doesn't mean that the gopher has talent.

Even the celebrities on the Hole programme said it was all garbage. They are contracted Channel 9 personalities - they HAVE to appear on this rubbish and you could see it on their faces.

If HITW was part of a larger, funnier programme I could see it working, the same way Songs To The Tune Of Another Song is only part of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue on radio.

On its own it's garbage, and I'm not surprised the d*ckhead schedulers over here have bought it.
