It often occurs to me how strange it is, communicating with people all over the world from this site. At this moment....
Diane is awaiting the arrival of a moose or two in her garden for Winter. Calypso has, hopefully, just missed the hurricane which swept up the Gulf of Mexico. Malc and Joan are waiting for Summer to arrive in Australia and, here in Scotland, I've given up on ANY kind of Summer arriving. It must be Autumn here because the rain is colder. Still, I'm off to Portugal for a week in 19 days and 10 hours. Not that I'm counting.

Coincidentally ...
-
Really?
-
... I shall thankfully be nowhere near Portugal at that time.

We've had a taste of summer in Sydney already, Roger. Yesterday, it got to 31 degrees celsius in the city. Today we've had rain, sun, wind and threatening thunder storms (they haven't arrived yet, but no doubt they will).
You're going to have a lovely holiday in Portugal, but stop counting the days and it'll be time to go much more quickly.

Roger, because of the internet, if I had your job, I'd consider living out in Portugal!
There are plus and minus points obviously. You can't watch Dundee United from that distance.

Go on then, I'll bite. What are the minus points?

I was expecting to scroll down and find that within Peepsie's post, Jack!
As for living abroad, well, I can't see that happening. I love being in Portugal and Montana/South Dakota but I'm sure that part of the attraction is not having to think about work. It's one thing to stroll along an Algarve beach, or drink cold beers in a Deadwood bar, but disciplining myself to work in those places would not be easy. The ideal I'm aiming for is less work here and more time travelling.

You could subcontract to me.

I think human brains work better in cold climates. Think how many great inventions were created in warm climates. Not many.
Even in hot countries, air conditioning is the key to a lot of cerebral productivity. I certainly couldn't go through a Queensland summer without it.
I know 18th and 19th century painters used to travel to Italy, but that was for the light, not necessarily to get their noggins into gear. The Romantic Poets used to travel to the med just to indulge their poncey notions of themselves and to escape whatever plague was hanging over England.
All the serious stuff was done once they got back home.

You are Dr Who I knew it.

Me and Jack could be a double-act! ;D

Excellent, Peter! ;D

So that's what it is! I thought it was my brain cells dying off and here it's just the climate - thanks for that, Malc. ;D
