Title: Dundee United
Post by: The Peepmaster on November 08, 2008, 05:36:58 PM
I think one of the best games United have played this season, up until today, was against Hearts, which United went on to win 3-0. Aberdeen are certainly no better than Hearts, and so it was proved with yet another good win for the Tangerines today. (Aberdeen have had a mini-run of three games unbeaten, I believe). Confidence should be high in the Dundee United camp which augers well for the next game against Hibs, at Tannadice, on Wednesday.

Your thoughts?

Well, of course, you're right, Trevor. Confidence is paramount in football today and it certainly seems to be coursing through the veins of these tangerine tigers. However, the game against Hibernian F.C. on Wednesday will be a stern test and the veins of these tangerine tigers will have to have confidence coursing through them if they are to notch another victory.

How much did you miss Roy O'Donovan, if at all?

We didn't miss that tangerine tiger at all. He was, in fact, available after serving his one-match suspension but was surplus to our requirements.

Ah, I hadn't realised he'd been eligible to play again. Certainly a result to be positive about, and following on from a terrific performance in Glasgow, of course, (as I'd been meaning to mention to Mince).

Actually, I think you'll find Wolves are six points clear!

Happy days, Peeps and Tarks. Happy days.

Who do you think Mince should support?

I suggest Kiddermincester

Why do I get the feeling this isn't about the tangerine tigers at all, and why wasn't I asked to be part of it, whatever it is?

And don't post any of your false innocence rubbish "what? who, us? don't know what you mean..."

Dear Malcolm,

You are cordially invited to join our football-related thread.

Incidentally, I hear that St Johnston have made an audacious attempt to take the Rangers left back, Steven Smith, on loan. If this comes off, it could help cement a promotion place, but is it the consensus amongst the Perth fans that such a signing is necessary?

Hang on - I'll go ask them. BRB

I'll join in any football-related topics if/when we learn what a goal looks like.

Jack a goal is scored when the ball crosses the line between the goalposts and under the cross bar.

a goal is that thing that sticks up at each end of the pitch with netting hanging on it.     ;D ;D ;D ;D

I want this thread to be inclusive, so...

If a striker hits a ball at 55 miles per hours, and he's 17 yards out from goal, kicking directly into a force-7 wind, what speed is it traveling when it crosses the line?  ???

Inclusive of maths bores, you mean?

Yeah. I wonder where he is.

A force 7 gale is not a exact speed therefore the answer is blowing in the wind.

the answer is blowing in the wind.

No, that's not correct. It's more likely to be a number.

This is difficult to answer because you're not specifying the direction of the wind into which he is kicking. I'd assume you meant that he's kicking it towards the goal... in which case I still can't answer you, because that seems to be an alien concept around these parts.

kicking directly into a force-7 wind

Incidentally, I haven't a clue what the answer is. I was just hoping an egghead would come along to solve it, and thus participate.

kicking directly into a force-7 wind

Yes, but you didn't say whether the wind was coming straight from behind the goal or, say, over by the corner flag. If he's kicking directly into the wind coming from over by the corner flag, clearly the ball has to travel further before crossing the goal line (albeit not between the posts).

That's Pythagoras' Theorem, that is. Though I suspect he probably expected it to be put to better use.

Also, if you're Geoff Hurst, the ball doesn't have to cross the line.

Roger, you know I'm not Geoff Hurst, and anyway, I'm not the footballer taking the kick.

I know I probably shouldn't ask this, but why did you call Peeps "Trevor", Roger?  Just curious.

It was a rather limp spoof of the average football discussion show where most of the pundits are called Trevor. I'm sorry.

No need to apologise - I just didn't understand, which goes for most of the rest of this thread.  I'm not going to ask who Geoff Hurst is.

Geoff is one of a select number of English football players who have achieved god-like status because of something they did over forty years ago.

I just found out today that my mates son is playing for Dundee United under 19's.
Gavin Stokes, I hope he's playing well.

My other mates son is playing for Bristol Rovers, ex Rangers and Falkirk player Darryl Duffy.

It's very interesting to hear from their dads just how Scottish and English football is run.

I'll keep an eye on young Stokes, Max. Can't say I've heard of him as yet but I'll watch with interest.
