I'm not sure a lump of coal and some shortbread would cover it, but a very Happy New Year to Vult and all our Chinese members and visitors.

I was surprised to hear some guy on the wireless saying that the fortune cookie is an American phenomenon.

Like Chop Suey.

Like Chicken Tika Masala too.

Except it wasn't American. It was a British invention.

And obviously it's Indian, and not Chinese.

Although it's not really Indian (or Bangladeshi) as it originated in the UK.

Invented in an Indian (or Bangladeshi) restaurant though, albeit one that was in England, (or certainly a part of the UK).

What I mean, is that it's not from Asia, like Chop Suey is meant not to be, (if Roger's right).

I believe Chicken Tikka Masala originated in Glasgow, Peepsie, although there is some dispute about this.

No, that's Chicken Tikka McSala.

Yeah, Tarks - that's why I said it was invented in part of the UK. I had a feeling it might have been Scotland, and I was counting Glasgow as being a part of Great Britain.

I know you did, Peepsie, but then you specifically plumped for England, although you covered yourself with your bracketed remark. The dispute is between Glasgow and a restaurant in Birmingham I believe, so I was merely seeking to expand your information, not correct it, Sassenach.

To explain- "England" is the title of the new movie he's starring in. Peepsie had to gain a considerable amount of weight to play the Isle Of Man, a loner tax haven living on the edge of the law, neither a country nor a county, living by its own rules.
