Title: Problems... problems
Post by: Tom on May 16, 2009, 01:44:21 PM
In the 'Its a sad day' topic, I tried to post "I can see Joan's picturesque avatar, but nobody elses. What's going on???"

Fortunately, Peepmaster also posted the same message, but I couldnt - I clicked post and nothing happened.

this is the eighth attempt at trying to post this.

Something is afoot.

Didn't Roger have a problem replying to a post recently?

And some of those buttons (up there above this message box) are blank...

I'm trying to post this message, but can't, so unfortunately you won't be able to read it. Damn.

Something's afoot, because I can't get a preview of a post.  I can still see Colin Firth though.  ;D

Ah, Joan, Bridget Jones. Just read the other post. it all makes sense now.

Whom are you pardoning, Peeps? Me or Tom?

Sorry, Tom - jumping around a bit.  Peeps - you should pay more attention!

No problem Joan... things seem to be a bit confused at the moment!

They're snogging now.  :o  I've missed most of it because I've been on the laptop and posting on here.  Have to watch it again.  Stuff the gardening tomorrow.

What an excuse to not do the gardening!
Title: Re: Problems... problems
Post by: Joan on May 16, 2009, 02:15:36 PM
An excellent excuse, I'd say, Tom.  Mind you, if Colin Firth was in the garden, I'd be out there like a shot, tired or not.

Anyway, I've done enough gardening this week, I planted 50 odd agapanthus(i?), after digging up a few of them and separating them as well.  I'll show you a picture later - it's on the PC.

Here they are - all those things hanging over the wall:

Here's a bit closer up - the clumps around the trees are what we dug up and separated into individual plants to plant along the wall - not an easy task, I can tell you.

Peepsie - is your avatar image in Picasa?  I still can't see it, but I can see the others.  When I linked to my photos in Picasa in this post, I couldn't see them.

A very good excuse, Joan. I can't use it though, as I don't have a garden.

You don't know how lucky you are, or do you?

I don't know... I miss not being able to sunbathe in the garden (when it's sunny, obviously) but can't be doing with all the gardening. Not having a garden wins for me, I think. I can use a sunbed!
Title: Re: Problems... problems
Post by: Joan on May 16, 2009, 02:43:49 PM
Oh God, no, Tom, don't use a sun bed.  You need to live in Oz for a while, then you'll realise just what a tan does for you - not good!

A garden is nice, but not half an acre, which is what we have.

Seeing as you've all gone off to get on with your days, I'm going to finish mine by watching a wee bit more of Colin, and then going to bed.

Good night all. (http://users.tpg.com.au/pdcs01/hug.gif)

You can't plant vegetables in a sunbed, Tom.

Now that Joan's gone to bed, can we discuss Colin Firth? You know. in a manly, objective way. Isn't he a bit of a wimp?
Title: Re: Problems... problems
Post by: Joan on May 17, 2009, 05:27:08 AM
Aha Roger! I'm up again before you got any manly, objective opinions.  Although I would have thought they would be extremely subjective.

Why would he be a wimp?  Because Mark Darcy is handy in the kitchen?  I've heard tell you're handy in the kitchen and that does not you a wimp make, methinks.  I don't know about the man himself, but I can't think of any of his characters where he doesn't play a strong, decisive man - at least in the end, anyway.  I've only seen two or three of his films, though.  Haven't even seen the famous Pride and Prejudice.  Now, if you'd picked on Hugh Grant, I might have been more inclined to agree with you.

Joan, you have to see Pride and Pred - as Mr Darcy, Colin is dark and broody;  he makes me wish I was 40 years younger! He could teach me to swim anyday!  ..0 ..0

To swim like a pilchard....

Couldn't Mince give you lessons instead?

I have never been able to see the appeal of Colin Firth for the life of me. I know it's a woman thing, but I can see the appeal of Sean Connery and that guy from Ocean's Eleven, etc, so I'm not completely myopic in these matters.

Ladies, what is the attraction in this bloke? And don't say "dark and broody and rides a horse well", Ringwraiths are dark and broody and ride horses well, but no-one fancies them.

I too fancy Firth.

Can anyone remember which movie he was in when he was in a bathtub?

To answer Malc: It is probably the poofy white Seinfield pirate shirt he wore in Pride and Predudice
Title: Re: Problems... problems
Post by: Joan on May 18, 2009, 03:08:59 AM
I'm not that gaga about him - I'd take Sean or George (rather have George than Brad, but wouldn't say no to him either) any day over Colin, apart from the wet shirt, which I haven't seen, I think he gives off an air of being a bit naughty, dirty even,  :o underneath that stiff upper lip exterior.

PS I still can't get a preview from the full reply screen - get one from the quick reply, nor can I quote properly.

If we must have photographic stills of lathered-up film stars, can I request the one from Cool Hand Luke?

Great film, Tarks. The scene you mention was symbolic of the injustice felt by the prisoners and, for me, worked on several levels.

I agree, although I do feel it was a mistake to linger quite so long on the prisoners during that scene. Call me picky!

I don't know.

Blame it on Roger. I asked whether we should upgrade and he started talking about cars. He's useless.

The fact that I'm useless has never been in question. So why are you blaming me?

Maybe we should find a new host. It works fine for me without avatars, but it's spooky that they're not there.

Ummm... I don't know if this helps, but I had a look at them in ie and the avatars that aren't showing have strange urls - they seem to be the ones kept on the forum site.  They're not really urls, more like a command.

Still can't get a preview.
