Title: Christmas
Post by: Mince on November 12, 2013, 06:13:08 PM
If it stays this quiet, I might have a chance of winning this year's Christmas Competition.

You already did. Didn't you get your prize?

I have never seen a £500 Scottish bank note. One of those would do fine.

The Christmas Competition....hmmm.
It's impossible to ignore what the recent kerfuffle on this site has done to both the atmosphere and the contributions. Most of our regulars have drifted away. About ten days ago, Rob Baker kindly posted about Beau Peep's 35th year in publication---something I have to admit that I'm rather proud of. There have been four responses. Two from the site administrator (thank you, Sandy!), one from me and one from my sister! Rob then went to the huge trouble of posting samples from five decades, showing the November 2nd (anniversary) strip of each year. There hasn't been a single response. I kind of get the feeling that, if the 35th anniversary of Beau Peep gets no response on the official Beau Peep site, then things are probably not as they should be.
Please don't get me wrong. I'm not in the slightest bitter about this. I'm both grateful and delighted about the amazing thirteen years this site has been around and I have made many friends because of it.  Everything has a lifespan and it could well be that this place has reached the end of it. I hope not but, if so, it's been fun!
As for the Christmas Competition----as things stand, I'D probably win it!

It has been quiet and I'm afraid I am neck deep in University maths at the moment.I am struggling to understand not only the maths, but why I wanted an Engineering degree in the first place. So apologies for my lack of attention.

I do hope it picks up again, the humour here is my kind of humour and I promise to be good and post more again, and if there's no replies, I'll just talk to myself. I'm a married man and used to that sort of thing.

If it was two "Beau Peep Original Artwork" sized frames, can I have them. They will house my last years success superbly.

I had missed Rob’s postings because I normally only check in “outpourings” – that was a very nice tribute to 35 November 2nds. It is true that Beau Peep is ageless.

I'm not sure if this place will get it's groove back or not - camaraderie is a delicate flower.

Nah! It just needs people to talk about things. Having said that, my life recently has been far from quiet. Where's Peepmaster?

Did someone mention competition!  :P

I'll put my hands up, haven't even looked on here for over a month. Just had the busiest month at work I think I've ever had. The rewards.........I get to keep my job for at least 1 more year.

IMHO, ( don't you just hate text abbreviations!) the banter is missing, maybe everyone is being a little cautious in what they say or post! Just my opinion....haven't seen JMO used! ..0

Having only just got here I'd hate to see it go!

Rats!  This has to happen in the very year that I've found my Muse and the resulting poem would have silenced all those cries of "favouritism" 8)

Is there an obsession with Rats all of a sudden? Just read they are now in Dick Whittington!

I wonder what dyslexic people think of text abbreviations? They probably just OLL.    ;D

I learned that if I hadn't anything good to say, I should just stay quiet.

That said, I have also been busy trying to find a job and sorting out our house.  I still can't get used to this retirement lark.

I am also trying to set myself up as a professional photographer (one wot gets paid to take piccies) and am e as well.

I promise to keep peepers informed of any progress and will welcome constructive criticism, sarky remarks and hip hip hoorays.

Don't bother to look at my site yet as there is only one blog.  I need to get pictures etc on it.

p.s.  Last blog was nothing to do with Christmas.  Just commenting on why I've not been around.

Roger, without Beau Peep this is just a forum, there are millions out there, good God I'm even a member of a halogen oven forum.
However Beau Peep drew this motley crew together and we continue to this day thirteen years on.
We don't always post every day, and it won't always be about Beau or his longevity, however the Beau style of humour DOES bring us together.
I think it has moved on beyond that, it's now a group of strangers/friends who like to share whatever screwball ideas are in their minds at the time.
Mostly we are friendly to each other, although there will always be personality clashes, that's life.

I'll keep on as long as others do, it takes a few minutes to post or reply and I would miss it it if it folded.

NB no brain cells were destroyed in this post, the large glass of Shiraz afterwards may hurt a few.

Max.

That was like a tongue twister for the observant.

Max, I totally agree with you. For years now, this has been a social site rather than one based entirely on cartoons and I'm delighted about that. Quite frankly, I'd hate to talk about Beau Peep every day. I'm no different to anyone else---I'll happily discuss what I do for a living but it would be extremely boring to talk of nothing else.
My concern was about the rapidly dwindling traffic on here, with, at times, a week or more going by without a word being posted. I DID feel sorry for Rob when he put in a lot of work to recognise the strip's 35th anniversary and it passed without response. I began to feel that maybe, just maybe, the site was reaching the end of its lifespan. As I said before, I'd hate that to happen and I'll certainly do all I can to keep this silly and enjoyable place going. IT'S ALIVE!!!

If there is to be a Christmas competition this year, can I request that the closing date for entries isn't
until Friday 20th December, as I'm on holiday for the next two weeks then have to go to the office in
Holland.

I've sort of thrown my own gauntlet down there to come up with something worth waiting for!! :o

I got in touch with Rob Baker, asking him to help with this year's comp but haven't heard back as yet. He's a busy lad so I'll give him a bit more time. Failing that, I'll try to get something done in the next week.

Can I suggest that for the Christmas Competition, everyone has to try to have a cool username, with the winner being the person whose username most resembles "Mince"? Or just give me the prize money and save yourself the bother.

"Mince" doesn't RESEMBLE "Mince"-----it IS "Mince" so that rules you out.

"Beep Peep" is what the Italians call Beau Peep in it's syndicated form over there. I have no idea why but I just thought I'd tell you.

My grammar is fine. However, my punctuation is prone to the odd rogue apostrophe.
