Title: Favourite Board Game
Post by: Mince on December 11, 2016, 10:16:34 PM
So what is everyone's favourite board game? Has anyone played Risk, or Monopoly, or Totopoly?

Backgammon for me, especially the Greek version where they play three different games, Portes which is essentially the game played internationally, Plakoto and Fevga, and then do it all again, no doubling dice involved in any of the games.  I've played Risk and Monopoly, enjoy both, I used to play Chess quite a lot, but eventually decided I was no longer smart enough, I still enjoy Scrabble as well.

No idea what Risk or Totopoly are, but I detest Monopoly with a vengeance. Essentially, it teaches greed, fraud and the worship of money, and ought to be banned for everyone under the age of 90. And I always got the thimble. The ******* thimble!

I used to enjoy Trivial Pursuit, but not played it for years. And you'd think I might enjoy Pictionary, but I'm rubbish at it. Maybe if I didn't insist on inking and colouring every drawing...?

So you hate the competitive nature of the game?

As one without a competitive bone in my body, yes - yes I do.  :\

;D I've witnessed your stubborn, all-for-nothing 'Game on!' competitiveness first hand. I bet you're possessed when playing board games.

I think you're confusing quiet resolve and determination, with competitiveness.  :\

Is this some strange new definition of the word 'quiet' that no one else in the world is aware of?

They put the car into the Monopoly game especially for Vegans. They were too weak to get around it on their own.

True story.

This is a man who has put an image in my head I really, really didn't need...and you ask him questions!?

I was trying smooth over the obviously salacious aspects of Roger's lurid past and maintain the high respectable tone we've all come to expect on this board. I was also curious as to whether Roger ever had any trouble opening the box.

Fair enough, my mistake, obvious in hindsight.   Carry on.  [If this all goes pear shaped...oh god, the image came back!!]

We play board games in our house over the holidays.

My favourite is one called Probe - I think it is from the 70s and I don't think you can buy it other than at garage sales (for $1 or $2) or expensively on eBay. It is a guessing word game for 4 people but I bought a few extra games over the years and you can just grab a set of pieces for extra players. I don't think anyone else in my family likes it that much but put up with a few rounds over the holidays to keep me happy (cooking).

My daughter had played a part in the stage play "Clue" at school this past spring so I thought it would be fun to buy the game. On my birthday this year, I sat down with my three kids and played a game - I went first (Birthday Rules) and guessed Colonel Mustard with a wrench in the library on my first go and won!

Everyone was annoyed as it takes a while to set up lol

That is a pretty stupid game.
