With all the new diets regarding healthy eating do you not think we would be happier not knowing all the things that are bad for us.
-
I agree with you, Peter. (I think. ???)
-
I remember when I was a kid in Wales and the eggs were spray painted brown. I guess they thought 'whole wheat' coloured eggs were better for you. ;D

It was considered a treat to have a brown egg when I was a kid (in Wales and Liverpool). I haven't seen a white egg in England for many years and I was very surprised to find them in Toronto. They tasted the same. ;)

To put it simply, white eggs are from white chickens and brown eggs are from brown chickens.
The reason you don't see many (or any) white eggs today is because the white chickens aren't the favoured breed anymore.
I must admit I hadn't noticed the dearth of white eggs until it was pointed out.

So why don't we see black eggs from black chickens
-
Becuse they're not kept in chicken farms. Go to a chicken farm and you won't see a black chicken, only brown ones.
You may wonder why I know so much about chickens....

And when you find them, let us know if their eggs are black. 8)

I'm American. Brown eggs are not all that common here.
-
Yes, Calypso. It seems that there are only white-shelled eggs on the other side of the pond. But if, as Malc says, the colour of the shell depends on the colour of the feathers on the hen, are all the chickens in American and Canada white?
-
are all the chickens in American and Canada white?
No. Although we have very strong integration policies in America, it does often appear that most of our chickens are white.

Is a banana diet any good

Is Spam good for you

It's all about the breed in vogue in whichever country.
A very popular American breed is the white Leghorn

Whereas in the UK, the breeds are brown.

Goodness, aren't the white ones clever; they've put their eggs in trays ready to go to the shops!
