(That's a question for Roger). He's probably watching the footie on telly like most blokes, which is why it's gone quiet on here.
-
Yes, I was watching the footie. Pretty astonishing result for Arsenal.
No, Andy Capp doesn't have a mobile phone. I don't so why should he?
-
Does he have a phone in the house? (I had a phone gag I was going to let you use).
Does the rent man still call? (I don't remember seeing him for ages).
-
They have a phone in the house but I've seldom shown it in a strip.
The rent man no longer appears.
I'm watching the cricket now.(New Zealand are 28-0).
On another topic, I used the expression "You know fine well what I'm talking about" in a strip the other day and it's niggling me---is this Scottish?
-
That's interesting. Is that a political decision about the Rent Man?
-
Nah. It just seemed really dated.
What about "fine well"? Is it Scottish?
(New Zealand 44-1).

I don't know, I've only been here 3 and a half years. Aren't there any people in Scotland you know who've been here longer?
Maybe the joke would work with a portable phone.
-
I was hoping to find out if I was using an expression that was only known in Scotland so that, if necessary, I could change it to something less parochial.
I might go to bed now.
(New Zealand 59-1).

You can go to bed when New Zealand reach 375 and not before!
-
Night, Peeps.
(New Zealand 68-1).

What are you asking me for?
That's some score. Who got England's goal?
-
Mind you, I haven't heard it used by anyone down here (in England) in 6 years. I think they may use "fine and well" though. But I don't talk to many of them.
-
"You know fine well" is a VERY Scottish expression, just thought I would give you a definite answer, Roger.
-
I was pretty definite that I wasn't sure. :P

At last! Thanks, Malc---I'll change it.
-
The expressions I like up here in Scotland are "On your way" (for "after you"), and "is that you?", (for "have you finished?").
-
What's the phone gag, Peepo? Well out wi it!

Andy (on couch): "No sorry, she's out"
"I'm waiting for her to get back too".
"I need another beer from the fridge".
-
Thank you. Works for me. ;D
-
Not funny at all (He says, writing it down).
-
Here Roger ? I too will donate a gag so you can have the rest of the day off to play a round of golf?
Andy Cap lies on the couch and the phone rings.
Doris has to come in from the kitchen to answer it.
?It?s your Mum? she says passing the phone.
Tell her I will phone her back when I?m not so busy.
-
I like the idea of bringing Beau Peep's Doris into Andy Capp!

Is Doris a new lodger?

Is Doris a new lodger?
Peeps, read it again. Doris came out of the kitchen; she must be Mrs Capp!
-
Flo is Andys wife

So what happened to Flo? Did she divorce Andy? Did Flo die? Did Andy then marry this Doris woman? Wasn't that a bit hasty? Does Doris really love Andy? Hasn't she read everything that's been written about him? (It's hardly been kept a secret). Maybe Doris is a bit of a masochist. I wish her luck - she'll need it!
-
Flo is Andys wife
I don't care; by the standards of the men on this board, any female that comes out of a kitchen MUST be the missus!
-
Don't be stupid.
What's a kitchen again?
-
I knew it wasn?t Doris but was too lazy to look up who his wife was ? I thought surely a little slip like that would go un-noticed or if noticed people would be too polite to point it out. ;D

Would you class the 'men' on this board as "people", Diane? :-\

Not the first word that springs to mind, Vulture ;D
-
Hey don't tar us all with the same brush! Not all men are like me. Or rather, I'm not like most men. You know what I mean.

Oh, yes. I know exactly what you mean.

Malc, haven't you been keeping up with other posts? She's got a whole house!

Isn't Andy Capp's partner called something different from Doris?

You are not reading all the thread.
-
Yes I am and you just fell into my oh so cunningly set trap.
-
O.k. Capt Mannering
-
Stupid boy.
Oh, and my "get a room" comment was because Peeps and Vulture seemed to be indulging in double entendres of a broadly sexual nature. I could practically hear them winking.

I would never indulge in a public place. :-*
-
I get it. ;)
