I'm off on my annual trip to the Philippines tomorrow which means I'm going to have to leave Mince in charge. I am so, so sorry.
-
Have a great time, Nige, and try to look in from time to time. Hopefully, you'll be able to post some photos at some stage. It's sad but any adventure I have these days is of the vicarious sort.
-
Not all Vicars are bad, Roger. I've heard they have some comfortable rest-homes these days.
I shall definitely be looking in and posting pics! Hoping to see a lot more of the country this time. It'll be a treat for the local filipina birds.

Does he visit the theatre?

Right. I'm in charge while Peepsie is away, on account of me being older, wiser, and much better-looking than Mince.
Bon voyage, Peepsie - may the wind at your back always be your own.

Okay, I'll second that.

older,(OK, you come across as a four-year old as opposed to Mince's three-year old): wiser,(hmm - yes, I'll give you that [see previous comment], there may be a tad more intelligence eminating from the one-year age gap, and much better-looking than Mince. (Prove it. We could hold a competition and vote on it!)

In the phrase "much better looking", surely "much" (adverb) is modifying "better" (adjective) before "much better" modifies "looking". To hyphenate "better looking" therefore seems illogical.
-
In fact, can't we put "much" next to "older" rather than "better looking"?

Vulch - a squashed hedgehog would be much better-looking that Mince! Tarquin just shades it.

'That' Mince - is there more than one?
-
Have a wild time Peepmaster - don't forget to pack teddy.
-
I don't think he wears them, Diane. Possibly.
-
Thanks, Diane. You're my favourite on here.

Tough choice!

Have a lovely time, Peepmaster. When I saw the thread title, I thought it had something to do with the storms in the Philipinnes. Hope nobody you know has been affected by them and that they've all run their course.

Hi Joan,
I'm on my way to Manila now, and am writing this at Doha airport in Qatar.
That typhoon was terrible in the effect it had on the Manila to Cebu ferry, where around 800 people were lost. We will be going to Cebu from Manila, but probably flying. We're hoping to do a shorter ferry hop from Cebu to Bohol at some stage.
Incidentally, although I learned about the disaster on the BBC website last Sunday, when I tuned into the main BBC TV ten o'clock news to learn more, it wasn't even mentioned, although they did a feature about people queuing for the tennis at Wimbledon. Beggars belief.
-
Glad you've arrived safely, Peeps. Keep in touch.
-
I was surprised there wasn't more in the news here too, Peepmaster. Considering the Red Cross reckons it's affected close to 1 million people. http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSL26222619
As Roger says, keep in touch if you can. :)

Went to Manila in 1997, loved it there. Just becareful of the small brown girls Peeps! :D
-
I'm in Manila now. Actually, Makati City, which is just one of many cities which makes up "Metro Manila". I just love this place. You see all shades of life. Poverty, shanty towns, bustling markets, fabulous hi-rise blocks, grand hotels, cheap restaurants and bars, and lovely people. The most over-riding quality of the Philippine people I find is their politeness. Yes, the girls smile and seduce you without trying, but that's a positive quality I think. It's just one big mish-mash of a place where everyone is so laid-back, and "manana" seems to be the motto. How anything ever gets done I'll never know.
The little brown girls don't lead me astray, MJ, 'cos I have Lucy in tow, and she's worse than any of them could ever be, (and I love her dearly).

Didn't mean about them leading you astray Peeps, I ment them pickpocketing you. :D
