Have a lovely time, Peepmaster.  When I saw the thread title, I thought it had something to do with the storms in the Philipinnes.  Hope nobody you know has been affected by them and that they've all run their course.

Hi Joan,

I'm on my way to Manila now, and am writing this at Doha airport in Qatar.

That typhoon was terrible in the effect it had on the Manila to Cebu ferry, where around 800 people were lost. We will be going to Cebu from Manila, but probably flying. We're hoping to do a shorter ferry hop from Cebu to Bohol at some stage.

Incidentally, although I learned about the disaster on the BBC website last Sunday, when I tuned into the main BBC TV ten o'clock news to learn more, it wasn't even mentioned, although they did a feature about people queuing for the tennis at Wimbledon. Beggars belief.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

I was surprised there wasn't more in the news here too, Peepmaster.  Considering the Red Cross reckons it's affected close to 1 million people. http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSL26222619

As Roger says, keep in touch if you can.  :)

I'm in Manila now. Actually, Makati City, which is just one of many cities which makes up "Metro Manila". I just love this place. You see all shades of life. Poverty, shanty towns, bustling markets, fabulous hi-rise blocks, grand hotels, cheap restaurants and bars, and lovely people. The most over-riding quality of the Philippine people I find is their politeness. Yes, the girls smile and seduce you without trying, but that's a positive quality I think. It's just one big mish-mash of a place where everyone is so laid-back, and "manana" seems to be the motto. How anything ever gets done I'll never know.

The little brown girls don't lead me astray, MJ, 'cos I have Lucy in tow, and she's worse than any of them could ever be, (and I love her dearly).
