Title: Cryptic Clues
Post by: The Peepmaster on August 05, 2008, 11:51:19 PM
I have a love of Cryptic Crosswords. The Sunday Times has a particularly good one, and it also gives an "answer" each week, which readers are invited to create a clue for.

I've never won.

Here is my attempt for this week. The "answer" is "Team Spirit". My clue is "Collective enthusiasm is somehow meat and drink for the most part". I have my fingers crossed for the ?20 prize.

Previous failures include (the "answer" followed by my clue):

Dispersal: Less rapid, clumsy, distribution.

Frontispiece: Recipe of tins' ingredients illustrated in book.

Drawbridge: Crossing from back room to make a grand entrance.

Ideologist: Visionary replaces loose digit.

This country's in a right mess.

Iran.
That's the only one I can remember, Fydo.

That's a great one, Roger. Rather like: "Entering a different country". (One of this week's clues).

I saw that one---I was slightly thrown by the "e" at the end of "Argentine"!

Gosh - I hadn't noticed that! I just stuck Argentina in straight away. No wonder I couldn't get 16 across.

It's a smiley, followed by a number, letters, number, hash, letters, number, the word 'date', an equals sign and some numbers!

I think Roger has tried to put a smiley instead of Jack's name and ruined the string.

What are you talking about? On my screen, I've just got a smiley. I was replying to Jack's horsie gag. I hate computers.

There, there. As you've had a trying day, you can take your cocoa to bed with you!

The smiley appears fine on my computer. Though somebody may have generously fixed the problem in the meantime?

I also though it was very kind of you Roger, to refer to "Jack's horsie gag", especially when it was blatantly stolen borrowed from Beau Peep. I've a thousand more where that came from!
