Darned spelling!
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:24:53 PM »
I want to know how to spell poin-yent - I have tried every combo I can think of for spell check; the kids took my dictionary for scrabble.

Help!
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

I did get made President of our local Toastmasters club (17 people) this year, after only being in it for one year - I am pretty good at the oral stuff.

While we are all in the helping Diane mood, next week my job at Toastmaster is "Grammarian/Ah-Um Counter". I need to come up with an interesting word that people need to try and use at least once in the round robin introductions. The theme of the week is "Snow/Snowflakes".

Don't be shy - shout out your word ideas!

Okay, I shouted it. The people in the street looked surprised. I'm not going to comment on your oral skills.

Toast-making sounds fun. There a place in Gloucester that's opened only this week that specialises in toast. It's called "Toast", unsurprisingly.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

I'm not sure what you mean by this, Diane. Actually, I AM sure. I absolutely don't know what you mean by this. Is it something to replace the use of "ah" or "um"? And this has to be connected to snow or snowflakes? Crevasse! Piste! Yeti!

Grammarian/Ah-Um counter are two different jobs that get stuck together. I try and count all the "Ahs" and "Ums" and other space words people use and report them at the end of the meeting. The Gramarian gives a word and definition and people try to use it at least once during the evening - next week out theme is snow stuff.
