For the attention of Diamond Lil

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

For an old man, his timing is spot on, unlike the tape playing in the background.

Interesting Neil Diamond facts:

1. He started out, a very long time ago, as Neil Carbon.
2. The beard was a late addition to stop skin sloughing from the jaw line.
3. He is often hired as George Clooney's stunt double.
4. Hello Again was written as a homage to his Alzheimers battle.
5. He is often asked to sing at baseball games to get the crowds out at full time.

Now say, "Thank you, Sandy, for those little known facts".

 ;)

Diamond Lil is away this weekend. When she finally sees this, Sandy, I hope you have a safe house to go to.

I fear no-one, I'll just look her in the eye and say...(here we go)

Lil, Hello Again. Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon so Don't be Cruel...I've Been This Way Before and If You Go Away to America, I'll be a Solitary Man, Forever In Blue Jeans.

Thanks for that, Diane.  As my wee brother said, I was away at the weekend and didn't know anything about this.  So good to see he can still stand for that long  ;)

Now Mr Buttcheeks...your clever response has saved your hide.  I like to think you have a wide knowledge of his back catalogue of songs and didn't just Google those ones...if the former, will I keep a ticket for you at his next concert because you are obviously a fan?  Sorry if that's the sort of personal stuff you would have preferred not to have spread across this site, leaving you wide open to the jeers and smears of the uninformed you tend to find lurking here.

ps  You didn't bring me flowers :-*

Ok...I'll whisper this while no-one is listening, Lil...I do like Neil Diamond. Neil and Babs singing "that" song still makes my hair stand on end. Two of the most distinctive voices ever, in what should be a mismatch, yet blending sublimely. Don't even get me started on "Love on the rocks"...sheer class delivered with such ease.

I can't claim a huge knowledge of his back catalogue, and yes I did use a list to help compile my get-out-of-jail card, but in fairness, the one I thought I didn't know (Solitary Man), I actually realised I did when I started you-tubing all the songs just to hear them again.

However, I can't help but chuckle when I watch the clip because there are times he turns around with that "nursing home" look in his eyes. That look that says, "Who are all of you and where's my dinner?"

ps I've been misunderstood for all of my life...    :'(

 ;D ;D

Have to admit I thought the same and also that he seems to be casting a larger shadow these days...that's what he gets for marrying some girl far too young for him who obviously knows nothing about good nutrition :\

I have to add this story...
A couple of years ago, my wife and I were on holiday in Portugal with our daughter, her partner and my sister, Diamond Lil. After a hugely enjoyable meal with wine in an Albufeira restaurant, we discovered that a Neil Diamond tribute act was performing in the cobbled lanes between the various pubs. It was a typical warm evening on the Algarve so a table outside a bar was procured, beers were ordered and we sat down to enjoy the show. The guy was good ("good" in the sense that he sounded exactly like Neil Diamond. I have no further comment). There came a stage where some audience participation was being encouraged. Now, before I go any further, I would like to point out that my daughter loves her aunt very much. Having said that, I will always remember my daughter slumping forward on the table, burying her head in her arms and saying "Please, God, don't let her sing."
It was a fine night.

...such as poor old Felipe Barros-Fernandes (48) of Loulé, who in an attempt to salvage his marriage, took his wife Vitória (46) out for a lovely meal in said fine Albufeira restaurant. "It'll be lovely," he told her, "This is a classy place where we can enjoy the good food, fine entertainment and really enjoy spending time together once again."

Anyway, long story short -and I'm not suggesting this is related to anybody's attempts at singing - she castrated him with a broken wine glass right there in the restaurant before cutting off her own ears using one of the shards, and serving him with divorce papers the very next day. He died the following year after being hit by a truck. Whether this was accidental, or he'd stepped out in front of it, nobody knows - but in a spooky coincidence, rumour has it the truck driver was listening to "The Very Best of Neil Diamond" at the time...
