Sandy, track down a book called "Where's Poppa?" It's about a Jewish lawyer in New York who lives with his mother and can't stand her. Every night, he phones his brother who lives on the other side of Central Park and says "I'm going to kill her". The brother responds, dutifully, and walks across the park, only to get beaten up by the same gang every night.
It is a very, very funny book.

Watch.......Home Alone (only the first one). Didn't see it at the cinema but at home on video. It's still the only film I've had to pause because I couldn't breath and couldn't see for tears!

I've mentioned the greatest duo in the history of comedy before (sorry Smothers Brothers) and even this sketch, but this must be one of the earliest versions of it ever recorded. Moore hams it up in this, but the audience reactions are great.

Just one of THE great comedy sketches. I still laugh as soon as Cook starts to say "I have nothing against your right leg...."

I first asked for this to be played on radio, I think it was Mark Kermode's show around 1993. He certainly hadn't heard of it, but they dug out the file for the radio audience.

When I first mentioned this sketch on the net, maybe 1999, it seems very few had heard of it still and there was nothing available on video. Now it's quite well known, fathers do for parent/teacher entertainment nights, and the audiences shout "neither have you!!" in answer to that classic line.

I used to love---and still do...comedy LPs. I think I was about 14 years old when I bought "The Best Of Milligan's Wake" (needless to say, featuring the genius Spike). I bored the arse off friends by playing it constantly. Over the years, I collected records by The Smothers Brothers, Pete 'n' Dud, Shelley Berman and Bob Newhart. Talking about Bob Newhart, Malc, I hope you saw him recently in the wonderful "Big Bang Theory". A masterclass, at 83, in comic timing.

Yes, Roger, loved Bob Newhart. At our army boarding school in Germany we were starved of British comedy, couldn't get the TV shows, so we lived on the comedy albums that the US army kids brought over. That's where I first heard Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby and the Smothers Brothers (and later Cheech and Chong). I listened to them the way other kids listened to Led Zeppelin, re-playing those great raconteurs again and again to appreciate their timing and phrasing.

Like all the greats, Newhart makes it look (and sound) so natural.

I also loved Bob Newhart, and bought an LP as a teenager - one of the first records I ever bought. Played it over and over again.

Now all these years later I follow him on Facebook. Click HERE... Still seems to be going strong, but without so much recognition from the younger generation. In fact his last post was in December. I hope he's okay.
