Happy <3 Day!
« on: February 14, 2014, 04:17:07 PM »
Hope you are all having a lovely, romantic day.

I woke up to the distinctive sound of our old dog barking non stop which could only mean that he had got himself trapped in my office - so I knew there would be some sort of Valentine's Day crap left on my desk by hubby before he went off to work very early in the morning.

Sure enough, a poor wee distressed dog and a pack of Hershey's Kisses were found in my office. I should have been a detective.

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

It began with a couple of romantic Big Breakfasts from McDonald's Drive-thru, scoffed in my Fiat Multipla by the Shropshire Union Canal near the Pontcysylite aqueduct, with me swapping one of my toasted bap halves for her burger slice, as we always do...

It don't get no better'n that!

And it didn't.
I apologise, in advance.

You sure the Hershey Kisses weren't meant for the dog, Diane?
I apologise, in advance.

I claim first prize in the "romantic hubbies" category. For Valentines Day, Mrs Buttcheeks has been given a shot of the telly remote.

It won't work of course. I took the batteries out in case she thought she could change the channel. But I believe it's the thought that counts.

I went to town and bought the ingredients for a chocolate fondue – strawberries, bananas and mini cream puffs along with 3 nice looking steaks. I will cook a Valentine Dinner at home tonight, get out my pink tablecloth and everything. And I found a Chris Rock romantic comedy in the “previously viewed” bargain bin. Life’s good.

I'm sorry, I now know that <3 is supposed to signify a heart, but for some time now I've been labouring under the illusion that as part of the new text-speak shorthand, 3<3, it signifies the expulsion of noxious odour from one's posterior - a fheart if you will. I find this image hard to shake. Plus, the way my better half always writes off Valentines Day as "commercialised claptrap", it also seems highly appropriate...
I apologise, in advance.

We ended up eating cold food at 9:30Pm, didn't bother with the fondu or the movie - I did ask the techie to join us but he didn't and we are all to polite to eat in front of him.  Hubby ended up having to go and axe down a tree in the dark as it was exactly where it shouldn't be. We were one of those cases in 100 where there are problems so it took over 3 hours to do what the internet guy thought could be done in one.

But occassions happen all the time (it is a holiday again today here "Family Day") but you don't get that many shots at high speed.

I wonder what your wife would think of Family Day Tarqs?

Shouldn't that be Fhamily Day?   ;)

Which one? Not sure I'd want to ask, given that I divorced them both (consecutively, I hasten to add). My current better half is pretty determined not to be the third, so we've lived over the broom for the past 13 years. It works - why spoil it?

So, what do you do on Family Day that you don't do the other 364 days of the year, Diane?
I apologise, in advance.

There are no gifts or meals associated with the Family Day holiday, nor are there expected to be extended family reunions.  It is billed more as an idea for a get-away mid-winter holiday 3 day weekend with the immediate family members. Our town was putting on free horse rides and snow building competitions, toboggan rides etc and they were giving out hot dogs and hot chocolate. It is a government of Alberta holiday so if you work you get time and a half. (hubby is working)

One of my sons is coming home on the bus but did not book a ticket so has to get on a later bus - he won’t be here until 4 in the morning. He is one of those really clever people who forget to eat – but don’t worry my older son phoned and told me that he would be physically putting son #2 on the bus at 11PM.

We are not doing much, well nothing really – other than watching those UK stand-up comedians I bought on DVD. We should be out there frolicking in the snow, but honestly I really don't feel like a real Canadian most of the time.

All sounds good though, Diane, especially free hot dogs and hot chocolate. And any excuse that brings families together is a good excuse. Have fun! :)
