I would have attended, if it were not so far.

Ah, shame - I'll have to drop heavy hints for them to book me for a Canadian gig, Diane. That would be fun!

Do you have "Comic Book Day" (May 2 this year) over there? I volunteered at the library for that this year - we hired a young lady from the city who has a few things published but is still in college, show children and youth the steps of creating cartoon characters. The end results looked good but I was doing face-painting non-stop during the event so couldn't get over to watch.  The neat thing was she brought along a couple of her college friends a juggler and a unicycle rider - you don't see many people taking up those occupations these days.

I'm not aware of that one over here, but there's been a massive upsurge in Comic Conventions in the UK, and it seems like hardly a weekend goes by without one being held somewhere in the country, and attendances by costumed comic fans is on the increase. All very encouraging! I'm saving up for a Spandex figure-hugging Bananaman costume before I attend my first one.

A couple of weeks back, I was taking an early morning stroll in the park in Shrewsbury, when I came across a chap on the path, riding a unicycle whilst juggling balls, and repeatedly (I stopped and watched for a while) trying the same trick of catching one of the balls on the back of his neck. As I walked on, marvelling at the talent of Shropshire locals, I turned a corner to find a massive U.S. circus tent pitched in the park, surrounded by huge trucks and trailers. The penny dropped, and I only momentarily considered enquiring if they wanted a cartooning act, and running away from home...
I apologise, in advance.

Why momentarily? Did it take you a while to realise you didn't know a cartooning act you could recommend to them?

It may have been fun to do caricatures of people but they would have expected help cleaning out the elephants too.

We had a small fair come to town in June, I joked that I may run off with them as my 4th attempted occupation this year, but I didn't.  They look like an awful lot of work setting up and taking down every few days.

The Town asked me to provide a few dozen photos for a presentation they are doing to raise funds with the county - photos around town of things like the new play sets and people having fun enjoying the facilities - the uni-cycler was one of the ones I sent them.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Did he really have three balloons stuck to his head? Gilding the lily just a tad...
