Just passed ECDL MS Excel 2013 Advanced exam - 97%, sitting MS Word 2013 exam on 22nd December...just wanted to boast.

In addition I was hoping for some tech advice from Roger.  I've just received in the post a Bipra USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power Adapter for 2.5/3.5/5.25 inch SATA or IDE Drives, which I hope to use rescuing some data from a dodgy external hard drive [once I have stripped it down].  Any useful suggestions before I get started Roger?

I did that once. I took my wife's hard drive out of her laptop and upgraded it to a solid state, and then put her old hard drive into a portable casing. If you have a desktop PC, you could have just plugged it into there.

I'm sure Roger will have something else useful to add.

My desktop won't recognise the the external drive, which is making some interesting noises so I suspect the read/write heads may have jammed.  The plan is to strip out the drive itself and use the adapter kit to power up and connect the drive to the desktop, hopefully then I will be able to grab the data, nothing lost by trying.

We're fortunate to have Roger as our "go to" tech guy...
