Roger, Malky McCormick and Ian Ure
« on: April 05, 2008, 03:32:03 PM »
I was surfing this evening, looking for all sorts of rubbish, when I came across this article, which featured the name of Malky McCormick, Ian Ure and our own Roger Kettle.
It talks about Aberdeen, not Dundee Utd, but you can't have everything.

It also mentions Muirton Park. Ahhhh - it all comes flooding back...
I apologise, in advance.

As you know, Malc, I'm a close friend of Malky McCormick (the other Ayrshire cartooning genius with that first name) and we get together two or three times a year---often after Dundee United v Kilmarnock games. Ian Ure (former Dundee, Arsenal, Man. United and Scotland defender) is also a close friend of Malky's and we all meet up for, admittedly, some rather interesting evenings. A reporter from the local paper happened to be in the same pub as us and wondered, in typical parochial fashion, why a former DUNDEE F.C. legend had been at a Dundee UNITED game. Hence the "story", which ran for several weeks.

Ian Ure! There's a name from the past. I remember he used to be on a football quiz show on the BBC and was the consistently highly-intelligent member of the team.

I can't remember what the quiz show was, but they used to do "Route 1", "Route 2" etc to score "goals".
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

Was it "Quizball"?
Ian Ure is a smashing guy, Nige, and, as you remember, FAR from the average "thicko" footballer. Great company.
Interestingly---at least, I think so---in 1967, Celtic won every single tournament they entered. The Scottish League, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup, the European Cup and...er... Quizball.
