Football Friendlies
« on: August 20, 2008, 12:56:07 AM »
I find it very hard to get enthusiastic about football friendlies, even international ones like we have tomorrow. I didn't even know they were happening until I caught sight of the fixtures on the BBC website.

1966 World Cup winners, England are at home to the Czech Republic at their World-Cup winning venue, Wembley, although it's a new state-of-the-art stadium these days, and not the World-Cup winning venue it was back in 1966, when England were crowned World Champions.

Scotland are at home to Northern Ireland apparently.

Anyway, I can't get excited about these kind of competitions. I prefer real matches like World Cup finals. It was the win by England, back in 1966, that got me interested in football in the first place. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

I've got to admit I'm of a similar mind regarding football friendlies. What REALLY annoys me though, is swimming. Why do we bother with the 100m breaststroke?

Hang on, have we already been through this?

Even I, a mere female, am fighting the urge to rise to it

You're only a mere female when you're swimming in a lake, DL :-)

...and if you were swimming in the lake district, you'd be a WINDERmere female.

Oh yes. I've still got it.

No, you haven't - that's just Peepsie's gag with a bit of geography thrown in.  :\

It's the people here who think of stupid jokes like that and refrain from posting them that have still got it.

I've refrained from posting hundreds of jokes.

Yes, the joke does the posting in your case.
