And he beat Nadal. Actually, he murdered Nadal.

I was jumping up and down watching it.

It was great stuff, wasn't it? I know Murray comes over as a dour so-and-so but I'd forgive him anything after going through the horror of Dunblane.

Crikey - I hadn't made the connection. I've just been reading a bit about it - apparently the Murray brothers were on their way to the now infamous gym when the horrors of that day began. And he and his family had known Hamilton personally.

I should have worked it out. Andy Murray is the same age as my third daughter, all three of whom were attending primary school in the Perthshire village of Dunkeld at the time of the massacre. I recall vividly the moment I heard about it, on my car radio. I've never experienced a more gut-wrenching moment before or since, and my blood ran cold as I heard the line "fatal shooting in Perthshire, at the primary school in Dun...". The utter relief that the next syllable didn't confirm my instant fears was tempered moments later by guilt for being relieved, and absolute horror as the events of that day unfolded.

It's weird that I hadn't made the connection. I'd sent my eldest daughter (24) a text message this morning saying I envied her day ahead, knowing she was guaranteed a joyful day. She's just four weeks into her first permanent job as a science teacher, at Dunblane High School, with still many of the younger siblings and cousins of Hamilton's victims at the school.

I wish them much joy today (she texted me back to say the school had the day off today), and even more tomorrow. They, and Andy Murray, deserve it.
I apologise, in advance.

The fact that he got scooshed by that Swiss bloke doesn't dilute the immense pride I feel at being a Scot.

I know I don't deserve to feel proud about Murray just because he comes from the same geographical area as me, but just as I was proud of Jackie Stewart's tartan helmet band, Murray's achievements resonate. Probably because Scotland has never produced any tennis players of note before.

On Sunday night my son's team finished a game with the win they badly wanted, and his team mate James (from a Scottish family) brought his pipes into the dressing room.

He played Scotland the Brave and people, opponents, officials canteen ladies and all came from everywhere to congregate outside the door, the corridor and the pitch entrance. He had to come outside and play two encores, and one of the team parents danced a reel in the car park. A REAL reel, not a p*ss take. Apparently she had been an area champion in Motherwell before she emigrated as a girl.

What a night. Michty me.

The sound of the pipes is incredibly stirring, even to an adopted "Scot" like me. We have the annual highland games, which I may or may not attend, but what I won't miss is the march through Rothesay that the bands undertake afterwards. It's a great sight.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

I take it we're not talking colonic irrigation?

I'd better shut up before I get a reputation around here.
