Tarks, that one went right over my head, I was reading it some days after the rupture, so the gag was lost, sorry.

The issue of the poor woman who committed suicide is (as it should be) separate from football, I do have some experience in these matters, I have a Diploma in Mental Health and I'm trained as a counsellor, having worked with many bipolar, unipolar, schizophrenic and other people over many years. I wish I had known the lady better, but she was never someone I talked to other than to tell that her son was doing great.

Awful story, Malc. In horrendous circumstances like these, I always feel desperately sorry for the daughter (in this case) who made the dreadful discovery, leaving her with an image that will live with her for the rest of her life. Every single one of us walks a mental tightrope and it can be horribly easy to make that fatal slip. Like I said, an awful story.

I've dealt with many people who have various disabilities and the worst sufferers are those with mental illness. Someone in a wheelchair can live a full life, have a job and achieve success, but someone with severe mental mental illness often is in a permanent hell, even when they are "happy" (called mania in the trade) they are only hours away from deep blackness and they may stay there for weeks.

One of the most infuriating things in life for me is to hear Scientologists offering drugs-free counselling to vulnerable people and demonizing drug therapy. Medication (and finding the right medication) is paramount in treating a lot of mental illness, along with a settled private life. The lady we're talking about was a very pretty wife and mother whose husband works in TV. You would never 'pick' her without knowing the family intimately. In many ways she was at the top of the pyramid in the sense that her home life was secure and she had a loving family, yet this still happened.
