The Hobbit? Bloody brilliant. Well recommended, Diane.

The barrel-riding scene is one of the most over-the-top, silly and totally entertaining pieces of cinema I've seen in a long time. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's mine. Only downside was some dirty b******d dinking the door of my pride and joy automobile, in the car park. May his/her genitalia suffer an itch eternal.  >:(

These type of epic shows are the only ones that I think are worth the money and travel to see on the big screen. The dragon looked awesome at the theatre - we all five of us went as a family, and as 2 of them get sea-sick with 3D, we watched the regular verson.

I bought a multi-region DVD player before xmas, and have been buying some UK classics – Dad’s Army was great (60% of us thought so – incidentally the same 60% of us that also enjoy 3D, wonder if that has anything to with it). Anyway, I bought “Porridge” after reading about it here and it shipped super fast – I do remember the music and the characters so I must have seen a few episodes, but was pretty young at the time to appreciate it. Looking at it now, it is brilliantly written and timeless – witty but also with a great deal of fairness, heart and social responsibility. Who would think that was 40 years ago it first aired.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

We gave up the 3D stuff for medical reasons too...my son tended to take migraines, so it's 2D all the way now.

Smaug was fantastic and the effects were great. We expected the cinema to be fairly quiet but it was mobbed. I'm sure Peter Jackson should be able to buy himself a country soon.

Roll on part 3. I should have saved up the cinema prices for a family by the time it's released hopefully.    :(
