Happy Hogmanay!

I thought I would wish you all a good evening, whatever you're doing.  Trevor and I are actually doing something this year.  Instead of going to bed just after midnight, or sometimes before, we're off to Shark Island at the eastern end of Sydney Harbour, where we should get a great view of the fireworks, etc.  Quite excited.  So think of me at 1pm, UK time, saying hello to the New Year along with a few thousand other people on Sydney Harbour.  If I see a camera, I'll wave.

Son John is off to Bondi to a party on the beach, and daughter Kate is going to Manly (on the harbour as well).

Sounds great Joan - hope you have fun.

New Year's day is always special for us at it is our oldest son's birthday - he will be 17.

It is supposed to be around -35c here so we will be staying home and doing what we have been doing since last Friday - eating too much; watching TV and DVDs and playing board games.

Diane, it's -1c here and, apart from Christmas Day (spent with two sons, their OH and three grandchildren) and occasional forays to Sainsbury's for supplies, I've stayed indoors for the last fortnight.

I will be spending New Year's Eve 'baby-sitting', as I've done for the last 15 years - we have a great time, with a bottle of alcopop each, playing silly games, and I'm usually the first one to cave in and stagger off to bed. I'll miss it when they get too old for a 'minder'.

Yes, Happy New Year, folks.
As is now customary, I'd like to thank you all for your input over the past twelve months. It's been a joy, as always. 2009 will see the 7th anniversary of this site and I offer special thanks to Nige the Peepmaster for that. Sob. I can't go on.

Happy New Year, everyone!  Happy 17th birthday to your son, Diane!  We had a great time, despite having to wait for two hours in the sun for the ferry to the island.  The weather was fantastic - not a cloud in the sky and warm - edit, I just realised there are clouds in the photos - there were none when we were waiting for the ferry in the sun of course!  We got a good spot looking right down the harbour to the bridge.  There weren't too many people either - apparently I made a mistake when I said a few thousand would be on the harbour, they reckon it was up to 1.5 million.  I appreciate having paid for our tickets to the island!

A few photos - mainly of sunset and dusk.  The fireworks ones didn't come out well - should have taken a tripod.


























And the only half decent fireworks one, which isn't much chop ...

We've had a hot day here today - not that I've seen all of it.  I'm not used to going to bed at 3am!
