Talking about America...
« on: January 22, 2009, 07:47:26 PM »
One of the things I love about Americans is their gift for directness. On one of my trips over there, my friend and I were crossing the border from Montana into South Dakota. There was a big sign by the side of the road which read "IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO TAKE DRUGS INTO SOUTH DAKOTA, PLAN FOR A LONG STAY".
Love it.

There should have been a capital letter at the start of that sentence, Malcolm.

Yes, we are pretty direct. "Don't Mess With Texas" is the reminder not to litter in my state.

I found the English signs very polite:  "No Dog Fouling, Please" made me laugh. In America the sign is more direct:  "Pick up after your dog."   My all-time favorite sign in England was the warning sign for "Elderly People."  In America we don't feel there is a need  to warn the public about the dangers of elderly people.

I know. And the fact it bothers some people turns me on.

I think Malc just wanted to see if he could give Mince an apoplexy (if that's how you spell it?)!

Maybe for his birthday, if it's nicely wrapped.
