Empty nest.

My son moved into his flat yesterday, meaning that for the first time in nearly 22 years, there are no junior Kettles around the house. About an hour after he left, some news concerning Dundee United broke on T.V. I started to go and tell him when it dawned on me....he ain't here. This meant that, when my wife got home from work, she was greeted with "Danny Cadamarteri got the Player of the Month award!"
This is going to be difficult.

Cadamarteri? But he's useless. He's been plagued by injuries throughout his career.

You could phone or email - you could even text but for that you need to go on a course to learn the lingo and have tiny fingers.

My Mum informed me the other day that she has terrible empty nest syndrome. My sister and I both moved out within weeks of one another.You would have thought after 30 years she's be happy to see the back of me.

Regarding Dundee United, it's a good job hardly anything interesting happens with them. That'll make things easier, Roger.


That reminds me. I went into the Post Office in Rothesay yesterday. The guy who runs it did my transaction, and then said, "Have you seen the local paper today?"*

I immediately responded, "Why, has something happened?"

Afterwards, I chuckled thinking about it. Goodness knows what any visitor within earshot might have concluded.

(*There was a story about islanders taking over an island forest as a community, and he wanted me to sign up to it. I'd already done it online.)

I am, of course, trying to be brave about this. When my daughter left home a few years ago, I was virtually inconsolable. This time round, it was all about manly handshakes and "Harumph. Okay, see you around, son".
It just takes a bit of getting used to. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and tell my wife that Lee Wilkie has passed a fitness test and will be on the bench against Celtic tomorrow.
