Speech Recognition
« on: November 27, 2009, 03:25:45 PM »
I recorded a few things onto my new dictaphone and had the Dragon "Naturally Speaking" speech recognition software turn it into text. Okay, I might not have been completely clear all the time, but I certainly did not say: "Hall's 40 Hoyas Everything the laurels of stealing a team leader and hopalong's match at can tell you we are out of the four". Bloody computers.

It was 14 Hoyas, wasn't it?
I apologise, in advance.

Computers are never very good handling the accents of canned plankton-munchers.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

Even the simple phone systems that want a yes or a no don't work - "Of course you stupid twat" gets you nowhere but a patronising, "sorry, our fault I didn't understand you. Please say yes or no.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

I think "hopalong" was the last straw. I removed the software.

I've got a text recognition voice thingee on my mobile phone... it's called Ellen for some reason. It reads text the same way as it converted your speech to text, Mince.

Or Ellen Back, to use her full name.

As you all know, I have refused to embrace modern technology. In fact, I refuse to shake it by the hand or peck it on the cheek. From time to time, by necessity---as on this site---I will briefly caress its bottom but that's as far as it goes.

I've been looking at the sophistication of Mince's telephone system.

The Can-Can, I think. (It's old-fashioned.)
